I run EV SXa250 powered mains, they are the best powered speakers out there. They are a little heavier (weight) than the Mackies, but they sound better, and put out more low end punch with the 15" speakers rather than 12's in the Mackies.
The thing about Electro Voice is they have the sound projection part of the equation figured out. I get clean sound anywhere in the room, and the volume sounds pretty even away from the speakers. You can push the high's more than most speakers, and the sound is clean rather than tinny or screaching. This gives a lot more presence to the sound, and projects it farther.
I've been using different EV's for years. Learned about them back in my performing days. Good Stuff. A little spendy though. Never regretted a penny of the extra money I've spent on them :D

Quote: Paid 51.50 plus 20.00 shipping for the Peavey mixer. Guy says he has used it maybe 3 hrs total. Thanks so much to all who responded. I'm learning! 500.00 more! Guess I'll have to cool my heels for a week or two...wife already says I spend too much om my other hobby (RC Planes) to have another hobby. This is gonna get expensive fast! It's hard to be satisfied with a home system after having the opportunity to sing through a really nice system. VINCE GILL RULES!Thanks, Jim.
Jim - I know EXACTLY how you feel!! Coincidently, I have been flying RC for 20 years, my fleet has several 25%'ers, and 31% and 33% planes, almost all gassers. I have 15 or 20 planes and kits, plus trailer, gear, etc.
I was bitten by the karaoke bug, when asked to do a charity fundraiser. I couldn't find a system worth throwing away, much less renting locally, so I started my system with an inexpensive mixer/amp with speakers that was on clearance. Worked for the fundraiser. Also bought about 30 inexpensive (read that CHEAP) discs. I bought an RJ4200 deck to play it all with, and used the cheap mics that came with the RJ. It all worked ok.
Now, a year and a half later, I have 400 discs, a dual CD+G player, a Behringer 1204fx mixer, two 300 watt amps for left and right (biamped if outside), a 150 watt amp for sub, and a 300 watt amp for monitors. Running 7 speakers, through a crossover, with an effects processor. I also have two 1400 watt amps, for bigger venues. A lighting truss with controller and about 10- different lights. I carry around two 12 space cases full of equipment, and a 4 space mixer case, and 4 huge road bags. And it all does almost exactly the same thing I did with the original cheap mixer/amp and two speakers, just LOT'S better...
I did find that if you decide exactly what you want to accomplish, then build slowly until you get there, it's better than buying the wrong stuff. I bought and sold a DJ mixer, before I knew what I was doing. Then I got some help from a friend, who's a professional recording studio (as a hobby!!), and he pointed me in the right direction. Everything I have bought since the 1204 and first two amps, has only been an addition to them, and each has been an improvement. Plus, I have learned as I went along, instead of trying to learn everything at once. I am very happy with my system the way it is, but do want to get one decent powered mixer, that I can just toss in the car with a couple-three speakers, and do a small to medium sized party, on the spur of the moment.
Just decide how far you want to go...then figure out how to get there. But believe me, I haven't flown but twice since I started putting the karaoke system together...hmmm, wonder how much karaoke gear I can get in the trailer???

WOW!! well now I don't feel quite as guilty as I did ..
I got out of slimers several years ago. I never got into the quarter and third scalers'. I've migrated to electrics for now. With the micro radio gear and lipo batts available now, I can make a styrofoam plate fly.
Sounds like you have some really nice sound gear! I'm pretty happy with what I have now, but it's like any other interest I've ever had, the wheels never stop turning! There's always something out there I think I just HAVE to have... .
