What is the best core set multiplexed with the singer?  I find it odd that they don't have the ability to turn on and off the lead singer.  Every Asian karaoke system I have ever seen (computer ran and disc machines) had this ability.

Most Asian countries use multiplex VDC/DVD karaoke format. Western karaoke format is CD+G. Most cdg comes without the lead vocal.

Well you may not actually find a good 'core' set like that.  Majority of companies don't do multiplexed discs anymore - at least in the states (not sure where you are), you may be able to find them on some of the DVD releases - I really don't know.
You can buy discs individually (sometimes in small pack sets of 4-5 discs) that have tracks with both music tracks & a separate set of demo tracks (with vocals), but I really don't think you are going to find an entire core set that has that.  I know the older Nu-Tech (crap discs) used to sell their cdg's in both multiplexed & non-multiplexed versions - but I think they even quit doing that a few years back.
