I've been out of the karaoke scene for awhile.  A friend is looking to start a business as a KJ and asked me to help him select his music.  Picking the most popular music in each genre is simple enough but I don't remember what the best versions of sings were.

I remember at one time that Sound Choice was considered the best out there from a quality of music and accuracy standpoint.  I've heard a LOT of horrible versions of songs that KJ's have purchased because they were cheap.  I don't remember if Sunfly fell into that category.

I'm not looking to promote one or the other.  I'm just looking for opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Sunfly, as well as some Legends have some very shoddy versions...I have listened to versions from ALL the labels, none are perfect however Sound Choice, as well as Zoom are good quality on the whole.  Chartbuster has some good country versions

Sound Choice has the quality. Sunfly has the amazing selection of obscure songs to choose from.

As far as one particular label being the best that's a matter of opinion.  Even what most would consider the "worst" of the manufacturers have some wonderful arrangements (NuTech, SAV, Backstage to name a few).  Even the almighty Sound Choice and Chartbuster have some real tankers.

As far as my books go my practice is to pick out what I consider to be the best version and list that in my books--1 copy of each song unless it's done by another artist.  I also have a Master book for just me that lists all the copies I have for occasions such as a singer who's used to singing from a different label than the one I have listed or when a track is bad (until I can get it replaced).

Probably not much help but my  :2cents:

Good point - I would say Sound Choice for me is more consistant.

While that's true - the 'worst' manus have far more bad releases than good.  Same goes for SC & CB FAR more good releases than bad.  Not counting CB pop/rock series, their country is much better since this is their specialty.
