Does anybody have any recommendations for new movies that AREN'T based on animated cartoon characters, pirates, horror films or films based on comic book characters! http://youtube.com/watch?v=SrzWgXB6vJg
I used to love going to movies but lately I just can't get inspired!  :(

Im the same way ! I cant stand cartoons...Although my kids have conned me into going to see Shrek 3 this weekend...I just seen a movie on pay per view a few weeks ago with Will Smith in it called The Persuit Of Happyness...was a true story & was really good. Other than that Ive been watching the tube. My usual Forensic Files & shows like that. Also theres a new program called Starter Wife that I enjoyed last week. Hopefully the movie market will get some grown up movies soon LOL !

Mornin' Odie & Kelley! I hear ya Kelley, maybe when the summer's over and the kiddies are back in school!   I saw The Pursuit of Happyness and I absolutely loved that movie.  Of course, I love most anything Will Smith is in.

Wish I could help you more Odie, but the last movie I went out to see was Pirates 3, lol.  I was squirming in my seat after being stuck there for 3 hours!  :rofl4:

Odie, I don't go to theaters much anymore, maybe once a month if at that. I have large screen TV at home with surround sound and Netflix.com is my best friend. I have watched over 2500 movies from Netflix and I always have over 100 in queue most of the time. I watch everything from b-movies to foreign and indies. If you want, I can make some recommendations on DVDs if you tell me what genre you are interested in. Let me know.

I like good character studies, dramas, comedies and the occasional sci-fi.  I guess I prefer films that count more on good acting and story lines as opposed to just a slew of special effects.  But I like a good explosion or crash as well as the next guy!  LOL

I've got the Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound system, I just don't have the 52 inch high def plasma TV!  So I still like seeing some films on the theater's big screen.  Oh yeah, I've got the Tivo and DirectTV and Netflix is a very cool service Ben!

The nicest part of porn is that the advent of technology hasn't replaced the great acting.  I still get as excited watching porn today as I did back in the 60's on my 8mm anscovision reel projector.  Something nice about movies that always seem to have a happy ending !

I give porn two thumbs up !  Something about the plot I seldom tire of !

Yep, I am the king of multi tasking. I can't do more than two things at once but I do two things very well.  LOL

Odie, here are some movies I recommend:

All the king's men
Pursuit of happiness
The last king of scotland
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
The Usual Suspects
The Boondock Saints
Find Me Guilty
Glory Road
Green Street Hooligans
The World's Fastest Indian
Good Night, and Good Luck
MirrorMask
Layer Cake
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Sin City
The Final Cut
Sweet and Lowdown
21 Grams
House of Sand and Fog

Some Documentary recommendation if you are in to that:

The U.S. vs. John Lennon
This Film Is Not Yet Rated
An Inconvenient Truth

I went back a couple of years on my Netflix rental history. I purposefully not included romantic, comedy or foreign films. I can do another list on those. If you like the list, I can go back all the way to the beginning and give you more. Let me know.

Wow Ben.  :worship: That is a LOT of movies! Sounds like you are the guy to ask.

I haven't been to the theater in ages. So I'm not a big help.

I also watched 'The Pursuit of Happyness' *THIS MIGHT BE A SPOILER SO STOP HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO WATCH IT*  That movie was exhausting to watch for me. I just wish they'd shown more of him after he had made a success of himself. Yanno? We went through all that crap only to have it end at the best part of his life. It was unbearably long and ardues.

That's a heck of a list there Ben!  I've only heard of roughly 1/3 of the titles.
Now how do you come across these movies?  Do you do a lot of movie review reading a head of time, do you just take a chance on them or hear about them by word of mouth?

Porn isn't allowed in Canby, Steven.  They check us at the city limits and the police make frequent rounds to monitor our viewing habits.  Maybe Charmin has access to some of this contraband, I'm not sure.

The Pursuit of Happiness seems to be talked about a lot.  I might have to get back into Netflix again.

Hi Sheree. I agree that the movie was a bit slow. However, I thought the interaction between father and son was very genuine and made the movie worth watching. I think since they were real life father and son, it really showed all the emotions as almost real. I liked it.

BTW, ***spoiler here*** at the end when they are walking down the street of SF? The successful black man that passes by is the real guy.

Odie, I usually do a couple of things. First, I watch all the movie trailers on Apple's Quicktime section. That gives me some idea of what movies to look out for. Also, I look at new releases on Netflix and check out what is interesting. I do take chances on some movies just on description. Of all the movies, there was only one movie that I stopped watching and sent it back because it was so bad. I don't remember which movie it was but I usually watch everything to the end.

I also watch other movie sites sometimes to see what people like. I try to keep busy so I don't get in to trouble. Movies are one of those things I do.  :D

I gotta agree about "The Pursuit of Happyness"

It was SUCH a good movie.... I cried as usual.... but yeah I'm with Sheree. You see him go through SO much work to get to where he got, and then you don't get to see him enjoy it!!

however.... close to the end.... There's the cutest joke ever that the little boy tells his dad

"Knock Knock"
"Who's there"
"Nobody"
"Nobody who?"

................ (silence)

HAHA!!! well...... I thought it was funny!

other than that..... the last movie I saw was 300. THAT movie was horrible. I couldn't stand to watch all the blood and rape.... bleah!

another movie that was really cute, but kinda old now was "The Holiday" with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Every once and a while you need a no-brainer movie that's just pure entertainment.... nothin ya gotta figure out. Yannowhatimean?

DO NOT SEE THE MOVIE " BUG "

Horrible movie - The only thing redeeming about it  was Ashley Judds acting.

I wasn't that impressed with shrek 3.
I loved "Happy Feet"
Pirates of the carribean 3 was good, but long.
Wild Hogs was really funny, but a bit corney.
although a very different kind of movie I thought "Apocalypto" was excellent !

Those are the movies I've seen in the last week.  LMAO

Pans Labyrinth is sub titled - I usually don't like subtitled movies because I think it takes away from the entertainment value, but this one was good.

I really liked this movie. It is a bit violent, but creative and well written.

Babs Ebert - 2 thumbs up  LMAO

I paid for a massage once but I forgot to ask for a happy ending. (It was very unhappy for me in the end)  :dancin:   In fact, I would have to say that it made me blue (in certain areas anyway)
