Seems as though some of the Eastern folk take their music quite seriously !

Man killed for singing Sinatra off-key
June 25 2003

A 25-year-old Filipino man has been stabbed dead for singing a Frank Sinatra classic out of tune during a birthday party.

Police officer Noel Albis said the victim, Casimiro Lagugad, was asked to sing Sinatra's popular song My Way during the party in the Manila suburban city of Caloocan on Sunday.

"Witnesses said the suspect, Julio Tugas, 48, one of the guests and a neighbour of the victim, got irked because Lagugad was singing out of tune," Officer Albis said.

"Tugas suddenly attacked the victim and stabbed him in the neck," he added.

Guests rushed Mr Lagugad to the hospital, but he died while being treated.

Tugas later surrendered to village security officials, who turned him over to authorities.

Police are preparing homicide charges against the suspect, who apparently admitted to the crime.

I guess it wasn't easier just to pull the plug on the equipment.

It's incredible how disturbed people are.

Here in Portland a few years ago at one of our prominent Karaoke places, the digruntled ex-boyfriend of one of KJ girls came and shot her dead in the DJ booth. Hence forth the owner promptly encased the DJ booth in BULLET-PROOF GLASS. So now you had the song slip in thorugh a slit in the window. The glass itself is alomst 2 inches thick. And so it stays today.

Karaoke rage.  People are nuts.

I admit that every once in awhile someone is *so* bad that I've had thoughts of maybe throwing a rotten fruit or something.  Violent death seems unnecessary.

True Tom,

I think these news reports are leaving out a pretty important ingredient regarding these acts of violence though.  Alcohol, drugs and altered states of mind causing excessive aggression, AND of course,  these idiots are nuts !   Not the most stable characters.  They don't mention the fact that inordinate amounts of hypnotic depressent substances can cause strange behaviour under certain conditions.

WOULD this have happend in a sober environment ?  I seriously doubt it.  Would these incidents have happened if the two individuals didn't hate one-another ? I doubt it.

Back when I drank given conditions of crowded as well as EXTREMELY hot muggy smelly bars where everybody is in everyone elses personal space, on lets say a mid-July evening, No AC, No air filtration, it became easy (When inebriated) to walk around with clenched fists.

Whew...now I've heard everything.

I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago who said he threatened to do bodily harm to another guy if he ever butchered any more Metallica or Queensryche songs, but I don't think he was entirely serious about it.  Still, he says that as far as he knows, the guy hasn't sung any of their songs since then.

Around this time of year,  in this particular area (sweltering heat and extremely high dewpoints) with Alcohol factored in.. Weird stuff will happen and people snap,  If this thread was entitled
"Man shot dead by sober individual for Singing out of tune"  I'd be surprised.  Many (when drinking) do REALLY stupid things

Once, at a bar I use to go to, I thought about passing around a money jar as a friendly gesture to award the proceeds to a certain singer so he could go and buy some teeth? LMAO :withstupid:

Oh Laura, I'd do it on purpose if I'd heard that fool say that!

And I LOVE Queensryche!

You know, sometimes I can still enjoy hearing a good song at a karaoke place even if the person doesn't do a good job singing it.  Not long ago I heard a guy sing "Cheeseburger in Paradise", and even though he obviously didn't know the song very well, I was gettin' into it--especially since I'd never heard anyone else sing it for karaoke before. (However, I have heard it since then, because I sang it last night--not at the same venue, though.)

BTW, I have only been singing karaoke for almost 2 years, so there's a lot of songs that I haven't heard anyone sing yet, but people say they've sung them or have heard them sung.
