I need to know where everyone is so as I can give the travel agent my state wishlist. there is evidently an airline ticket that will allow you to hope between states for one pricem but you have to name the sectors etc before they name the price. I need to have everyones whereabouts. You have to know of course that my wishlist is gonna be too extensive so I am going to have to compromise...I just want to make sure I compromise the right way

I will never watch it again after that idiot won last year that's already in the "Where are they now" file.  There were several that was much better than Hicks that were voted off.  Seems odd the first year they raise the age limit, that the oldest contestant won - AND he wasn't that good!?!?!?
I believe it's all pre-determined from the start - no I can't prove it & it's my own opinion, but who would know how many votes anyone actually got, other than their own computers & we always know computers are always correct.  Remember the one vote where all the votes went to 1 person because the phone lines were screwed up?

Yeah baby! That's exactly what i said last year. I thought it was a joke or something, particularly as I watched talent getting eliminated left and right and clowns stayed around long enough to win it all (Taylor the Hick). ..and stupes paying money to vote? Holy Howl at the moon, Batman!  What the heck? That network ran into a gold mine! Too bad Sanjaya this year made it all that much more obvious that it's just entertainment and nothing to do with talent. People don't want to see a show without a controversy and talented singers miming the same old "new style" of singing into a karaoke microphone just doesn't make it for me. The show is a joke and people are so easily manipulated into accepting that as entertainment that it makes me wonder. That being said. It's my favorite show. I tape every episode on my DVR. Wahoo!     :asleep:

Exactly. One of my biggest probs with Ido is it is too focused on that Mariah Carey sound style of singing. I mean, that is great and I like her style when in the mood for it, but it seems like you always have to sing like that. They do other stuff, but it seems that is over done. We are talking about American Idol aka a Pop Star, but keep in mind there are a myriad of new sound style out there nowadays for those of you tracking the tons of new bands and singers popping up.

Personally I much preferred that competition for the next Pussycat Dolls singer. I mean all of those girls were extremely talented, beautiful, and could dance to boot. I'd say they all could sing better than the Idol contestants. Skimpy clothes were a plus   . Even the Rock Star competition is better in my opinion. I forget the name of that show...was it Rock Star?

One improvement to American Idol would be to get rid of the current judges Simon, Paula, Rudy and get some new faces in. Try and change the format every year a bit. But yeah, we've all heard about how at auditions Idol passes up tons of talented singers after they have their quota, but continues to let lots of clowns in. I admit the clowns are fun as long as they don't over do it. I don't know that they should be so rude to many of the contestants either as they have earlier this year.

I am not an avid watcher of AI, but did catch the final and a few of the previous shows.  I am under the impression that the contestant are not actually singing live but lip-synching to their recorded voice while on stage.  This became more evident in the final.  There were no stage monitors except for when Green Day were on stage.  Other singers, Bette Midler, Taylor hicks, and others clearly were using in-ear monitors as you could either see the monitors themselves or see the body-pack receivers on the singer.  But where were Jordin and Blake's monitors.
I may well be wrong on this point but I was looking for the monitors on them and could see none.  Of course they wouldn't need monitors if they were lip-synching right?

I HIGHLY doubt they were lip-syncing....  first of all.... if you were gonna lip-sync, wouldn't you make the track sound flawless? You could definately hear flaws in their singing.... not that it's a bad thing (it's good actually.... shows character, in my opinion) plus.... Jordin got all choked up at the end... call me crazy, but I don't think you can lip-sync to sputters (ok... it wasn't quite sputtering, but ya get my point)

As for why they didn't have monitors (assuming they didn't) Maybe it's part of the competition. It would make it a more challenging competition...

just my two cents

No way. I attended the show last year and they are definitely singing live.

Speaking of judging contestants on their looks (hi Milo  ) did anyone hear that news report on the Fox News Channel? Apparently, according to MeMe Roth from the National Action Against Obesity, "Jordin Sparks is overweight and should not have become the American Idol." That just really irked me!  :madgo:

We just don't have enough anorexic role models these days.

Also, yes! Bette (hi Billy  ) Midler was having a VERY off night.

Jordin Sparks is overweight? You mean.... cuz she's healthy? friggin ppl make me sick.... trust me... I've BEEN overweight, and Jordin AIN'T it!

I agree about Bette Midler.... omg.... I was trying to sing with her.... it just wasn't happening... I couldn't follow her at all. Can't say I'm much of a fan anyways, so oh well.

I think we could just get rid of the whole thing and then......

(No, that was the whole thought I guess)  :baby1:

Hi sweetie

I can't believe I'm the only American Idol watcher. This year was the best ever. I fanally feel like I saw some great talent battling it out.

Wow that Phil stacey has an incredible voice. When he isn't under stress because of the competition he really shines. He would have gone farther I think if he had the look too.

Poor Melinda Doolittle if she didn't look like a troll she probably would have won.

Babs,
I'm really into every season of American Idol.
Jeffioke makes fun of me because I DVR every episode
and watch it later to skip the commercials.
For a while Leticia & Melinda would make me cry.
But Jordin just kept getting better & better.
I dont always agree with the outcome, but I did this year.
It was hard because I did like Jordan,Leticia,Melinda & Phil.
I also liked Blake (but not really his singing)
he was kind of entertaining and different.
I liked Chris because...I'm not sure...I guess because he was cute.
Last year I really was disappointed with the winner.
I liked Chris Daughtry, Katherine & Elliott much better
than Taylor Hicks.(he was goofy)
I like watching the tryout's also because they are funny.
I kinda feel sorry for some of those people. But it's still funny!

Hi Debs-
It looks like we have a lot in common. I used to Tivo AI and watch it later.

BTW, I'm back to tanning again. I covered my bum this time  LMAO I haven't seen any peeling, but assume it is inevitable. The itching continues.
