I work at a local high tech company (Motorola sold out to Continental automotive) and I work 6-6, which has me getting up at 4:25 every work day to get ready for work.
Now all I could think about this weekend was how I was going to sleep in because I was so incredibly tired at work fri-sun (3 straight). So this morning you can imagine my surprise when I woke up at 4:15 and actually got up (mostly for a rest room visit) -The pee pee fairy made a visit during the night dropped the bomb on me I guess. Well, despite laying back down, I have been more or less up and awake ever since which will cause me some problems later this afternoon when I am falling over tired.
I remember my relatives (aunts and grandma) who who naturally very old when I was a kid getting up at 6:00am even though they didn't need to do so. I guess I am getting to the age where I can't ever even think about sleeping till noon anymore. It's just a dream....(boo hoo). My son had no school today so I could have stayed in bed and enjoyed a few dreams, the cool sheets and turning over the pillow every once in a while. Instead I sat at my computer writing moronic stuff here in the forum on no sleep, which lets the ID come out a bit. Anyway, is this a natural thing as we get older to start into a sleep pattern where you need less sleep? Or should I get some da mn sleeping pills and crash hard for a healthy night's sleep? Help me, help me, somebody help me!

I need 8 hours, no more no less. It's weird cuz I really don't need an alarm clock to wake up--it's like my body knows exactly when I've had my 8 hours. But when I was younger I needed anywhere from 10-12 hrs. So I'd have to agree that in general I think most people need less sleep as they get older. Maybe because you expend less energy so your body doesn't need to recuperate as much.

Interesting. Maybe I need to get a job where I can play basketball all day then. Where do I apply? (Okay, tennis, golf, even riding a bike?)
Could be you're right Luly.

also Jeff its a proven fact that if you are an early riser due to job or whatever your sleep in should never be more than 2 hours or so past your normal wake time otherwise you will not be refreshed, in fact the reverse, you will become more tired because your body clock will be confused as to what adjustments it has to make

I worked years for a large corporation in administration. At around 48 when I was getting ready to go into partial retirement they set me up with an office here at home, which is always running behind me (and I'm almost always working while in here, just multitasking, so I can't usually focus in here, usually distracted). I currently work in a medical-law related area, and there's stress. ALways have been in very high-stress areas, it physiologically takes its toll. I try to leave my dirty shoes outside doorways however and leave my work-life, and personal life OUTSIDE of these bboards. In fact I come here to lighten up and escape "real". These places are medicinal for me.. Only reason I play in here. Spent years in think-tanks, and on boards... Dealing with people (for lack of a better term) *sucks*. Since my mind is always noisy, I find myself gravitating towards noise :/ Sometimes I sleep, othertimes I go a few days without. Given a choice I would've remained a traveling musician YEARS ago, but that life made my very sick. Or, my inability to live in such a setting made me sick.. One or the other.
So here's a confession. I'm not really a middle-aged smelly obese jewish bald guy who collects welfare and foodstamps and lives in moms basement..
(I'm agnostic)

It's funny you brought up sleep habits. I'm not sure I have any.
My day job during the busy season ( Dec. - May ) can be 12 hours a day then my night job (karaoke) is 3 nights a week. My only day off being Sunday. I always triy to sleep as much as possible on Sundays, but being my only day off things need to get done. Sometimes I'm a walking zombie and other days I would have energy to burn. Star Bucks helps !
Now my off season for my day job I work here and there - sometimes from home. It isn't so bad, but I'll tell ya working until 3am or later on Friday and Saturdays makes Sundays feel like I have a hang over. My sleep is all over the place.
My family usually has get togethers for holidays on Sundays because of my work schedule which is fabulous, but it is so hard to muster energy after working until 3am the night before.
I hate the old stigma of woman do all the cooking and all the clean up on holidays. My sister-in-law made some comment about me not jumping up to help after the meal while the men all laid around napping. I got ticked ! I always help, but why can't the guys help? Her answer was they worked all week. LMAO I usually don't toot my own horn, but I was ticked. So my response was. Gee let me see I work 2 jobs raising 2 kids by myself and I'm not tired and napping because why? I would love to be a house wife and wait on everyone, but I don't have the luxury. She did apologize later.

I probably used the word incorrectly. I meant it to mean a stereotype of how woman are supposed to be.

In certain cultures I guess gender based rolls are expected and adhered to. "Old School" perhaps given modern conveniences in the States, but I never judged it as being right or wrong. I look at it as others lifestyle, and I have no right to judge it.
