I've been hosting for about a year now.  I figure I've got a good balance on my mixer and running a computerized show, can generally identify a song that's fallen victim to a bad burn (CDG rip).  Some nights I feel like I've got the sound right where I want her, and other nights I feel like she's running all over the place and I'm chasing her in a futile attempt to get her under control.  Sometimes she comes and goes in the blink of an eye, leaving me to scratch my head.

Is it the same for you?  Does sound seem to come and go whenever she pleases?

Not an expert, but anyone who has dj/kj'd for any amount of time can tell you that sound will react to any/everything within the room, bar, etc.. It will react to changes of the location of tables, chairs, number of people, even the air density, humidity, all that stuff. That's just my experience.....Lonman would be able to give you a probably more concise answer. Just thought I'd toss what I know your way.

Nope Donny pretty much nailed.  You can have an unbelievable sound one night - right amount of bodies in the place one night & not change one thing for the next night in the same club & have a completely different sound.

Exactly,  One night might be 70 degree's but the following night might be packed and 40 degrees outside and everybody is wearing bulky jackets which will absorb and muffle some sound.. ALL depends.  Room acoustics depend on just about everything that absorbs and bounces sound within the same exact room.  Number of people in a room too.  CHanging a room design and layout isn't unlike redesigning a speaker cabinet regarding "How things sound"..  Every little thing can change sound if the ear is sensitive.  In a sense rooms become "Speaker cabs"  LOL

I agree - Best thing to do every night is to start FRESH with a zero'ed out EQ and adjust as needed ...ALL NIGHT LONG

What sounded GREAT at 8PM might need a TWEAK or 2 at 9:15 PM

I'm always adjusting something. From the beginning of the night to the end of the night. (Amount  of people, noise level, type of noise, doors and windows opened or closed, weather.)

We had a KJ on the forum once that said he set his system the same no matter where he was. His credibility went way down in my eyes after that statement. I can't imagine being able to do that.

I agree Charmin.   He's arbitrarily assigning gender to the term.  Usually when "She" is used it's not referring to sound, but noise  LMAO   "Famale" gender refers to stuff like Hurricanes, and loud screeching stuff.. That is until women didn't feel such proper use was PC, and guys had to absorb some of this Hurricane stuff

Oh, well if he's just calling us "loud", then that's okay with me. I'm normally loud as hell. People have been trying to shut me up for years.

I thought maybe he was calling us finicky and unpredictable or something. Cause I would have taken offence to that.

No,  I agree with you here.  I've heard "Ships", "Large bodies of water", Storms, and numerous things referred to in the female gender,  "Mother Nature" for instance.  Yet "Sound" is not gender specific unless it's a specific gender making the sound of course   <---figured I'd try a knew gimmick  <hehe>

In fact, prior to S&G's lyrics "June, come she will", I never heard months referred to as gender specific either.

I often refer to things I love as she.  Hope this clear things up.  How did the elusiveness of sound turn into 'who is this guy trying to offend'?  Cleverness must be a lost art.
