Yeah, sounds like a good idea, but I can't take credit for it. I believe it is something that  Babs uses with success.

I don't use the whiteboard, but have the computer with a program I had designed in '95 so the singer can monitor exactly what is going on.  What time a new singer was stamped in, estimated time to you next song, what time you sang last.

The way I display the line up just evolved through time. I am lucky enough to have a large ledge with 2 windows behind the singers on stage.
Because I keep karaoke song lists for my regulars on index cards I needed away to see the line up without it blowing all over the place from the wind.

I found these magnetic strips ( 3" x  24" )  at Staples that I attach the slips to with magnets. So if you want to see when your up next you just look at the ledge. It gets a little tricky after I get about 30 singers, but people seem to like it.

I've also found that interlacing old and new works best.  The only one's that I ever disappoint are those who turn in 50 slips at once, expecting to sing every song, and those that convince everyone in the bar to sing a duet with them.  Some people just can't get the idea that the karaoke show is not for their exclusive entertainment.  I actually had to 86 one gal for a couple of weeks because I was squeezing a few extra songs in the end of a show, and she was one of them.  The gal singing before her was singing a song the other girl likes to do, and shared the same name, so when the music started playing they both came up.  They both ended up singing the song, so I took the other slip (of the one who crashed the stage), and when I closed my show she went ballistic that I didn't get her song up.  First of all, she's one who regularly turns in 50 slips, and is a duet hog.  I was squeezing in people who hadn't had a chance to sing yet, and she'd been up a couple of times.  So in all the interlace concept works, except for a few.

LMAO Gotta love the people who turn in 50 slips at a time. Actually I don't mind it as long as they put them in the order they want ahead of time. There is nothing worse than cuing up a song and they say no to it, then take 5 minutes to decide  which one they want to sing. I don't mind changing a song for someone, but when it starts slowing down the rotation I put a stop to it.

see, and I didn't accept folks that did that. ONE warning, and that was it. I'd shake my head and suddenly turn deaf. One guy went th throw my mic down in disgust, and I told him if he couldn't give ME and my entire audience the common courtesy of telling me at LEAST 15 seconds in advance of his change, the song stood as  is!

We have karaoke from 7pm untill 11pm, it has been at least 4 years or longer since i've gotten done at 11pm. So i have enough time before 2pm last call to get everyone in. I have been at the same club for over 5 years now, and i treat my singers right, and that's why i am still there. And i can't begin to count how many yard parties, pool parties, graduation jobs i've gotten from the people of my club.
I think all is good for you... My problem starts with the fact, my bar owner is only paying for 4 hours... He slides my hours to set up/only music until 10:00 then the karaoke is the normal 4 hours... Yes, I have tried the normal get the "late arrival" up soon/next but how can I mix this in ?
