Yeah,   but quite frankly,  Some of the dogs around here I don't think are stranger friendly, and when I'm greated at a corner by a great pyranese hound, or a Rottweiler, or germn shepherd, and the dog senses my sudden surprise and normal fear reaction, the dog isn't happy, and I feel cornered..  Sometimes I wish certain people did keep their 200 lb species of dog on a shorter leash LOL ...  The dogs mouth is quicker than my foot if god forbid the dog decides he wants a piece of my leg, arm, etc.   I have a natural fear of certain huge breeds that just popout of noplace excited..  There are breeds that will always be playful yet highstrung and although not extremely dangerous, unpredictably dangerous around certain strangers...  Dalmations and even schnauzers are pretty high on this list...LOL... Most of the toy breeds too, Those little shakey chihuahua's don't seem to like me. LMAO, nor do Yorkies.. A few times I've been bitten "Petting the cute dog with the bow in it's hair" :(

Hence the problem.  Most people can't see the tension, and anxiety I carry around with me at all times..  Yet dogs DO see and feel this.  they are VERY astute when it comes to a wired person approaching them...

Hehehe,  I miss the Brigit Bardot avator.. Gave my eye some of the best viewing since the psychedelic era when I had blacklight posters, pot, booze,  (before I gained my virginity)

The Brigit Bardot avatar? Is it possible I missed or forgot that one? Sounds intriguing.

I've seen some nice pit bulls. It does really depend on how you raise them. I've always really been into dogs and even dog training and all my dogs have always been good, real personable, friendly pets.

I've never had a pit bull or a rottweiler, but my sister has. I believe they are friendly good dogs to their owners as long as you raise them properly. They do have strong instincts to protect their owners though. You wouldn't want to sneak up on them without the owner around - there's no telling what might happen if the dog was afraid. Of course it helps if they already know and have met you - knowing that you are ok by their master.

I saw a program on Discovery where someone got mauled. Apparently the pit bull was out with another dog, and they have a tendency toward pack mentality and the other dog was aggressive which made the pit aggressive too.

Yep, if those types of dogs are out running free - particularly in a group you might want to get out of their reach.

I think many breeds do.  Labs too... Thing is some breeds without question are A LOT more prone to aggression when aggitated.  Have you ever seen an angry Miniature Pinscher ?  After seeing a tiny teased dog go bizerk, A quicky figured out how a skinny large doberman can be so dang violent.  Kids (who were quickly thrown out've the dog show) were teasing a miniature pinscher,  THE THING WENT WILD.... Jumped straight up in it's verticle plane about two feet, eyes popping out've it's head... Hissing, snarling... and seething.... and THIS was one of the tiniest dogs at the show..
