Ok, as promised per other posts here is the Mexican Martini thread. I've already started so you folks are all behind. Basically here is how it goes. You get your Trudy's Mexican Martini recipe here:
http://www.recipesfromgrandma.com/2005/ ... ni-recipe/ and make your Martinis and start drinking. These things are a bit strong, but believe me they are delicious. If you desire for something less strong I suppose you can use your favorite Margarita recipe without violating the spirit of this endeavor.
Next, somehow we need to all get the backings for "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett. Everybody sings their own version, and as XX mentions you can certainly make up your own words. In fact this is encouraged. So then everybody subs their version to SS.
At this point we all drink Martinis, Margaritas, and listen to subs. Feel free to invite your friends. We can talk about the results, experiences, opinions in this thread.
Granted this is short notice. A few of you with the capability can get started tonight as a warmup. Otherwise we may have to schedule the actual event for another day - such as next weekend. That will give us all the chance to get our backings and sub our songs. Keep in mind "Margaritaville" probably sounds better after having a few.
Let me know how the rest of you like this idea.

I'm getting tipsy just reading all the ingredients in this!
I'd play along but my hubby''s already gone to sleep. And my recording stuff is in our bedroom. :(
This is a great idea tho, Bill! :D

Well I thought so. We need to build up the interest and active participants cause I think it would be fun not only to drink these things (I know this) but to hear all the funky Margaritaville versions. Seems there just aren't a whole lot active on these forums nowadays. Not like back in last August when I first joined. I dunno, maybe I ran them off? LMAO
Just had my third Mexican Martini. Gosh these things are SO good. If you like Margs Luly then you will love these.
I'll probably chill on them for now though. I may try and sub another couple of tunes or something.
Nice to see you on my thread Sweet Lady.

Honestly? I'm not into imbibing, but if it's a fruity drink with no alcohol, I'm there! Yeah, I'm such a pollyanna when it comes to drinking, but I've never been much into it. The most I'll drink is some Asti Spumante on New Year's Eve.
You think you ran off people?? HIghly unlikely. You're pretty sweet yourself, pardner.

Jeff, you're on here now. Try the Mexican Martinis already. Ok, I know you've been at busy. Probably the liquor stores are closed to today, but you have to check these out.
The rest of you out there...get busy.
Let me know the results.

![Na Na :nana:](./images/smilies/nanana.sml.gif) This thread will never die. I will keep it alive single handedly for over a year if need be. LMAO
IRBENT just provided me with a Margaritaville backing so expect in the next few days to likely hear a Margaritaville sub from me. I may wait for the weekend when checking out more Mexican Martinis though.
Kids get your ingredients and backings this week and be ready to go for the weekend. Remember...I know what is good for you. You Don't! LMAO :rotflmao: :reddevil:

That's ok Luly, not everyone has to drink here - although I think in the spirit of it one Mexican Martini wouldn't hurt anyone. Trust me they are delicious - that's why I like them. Get your Margaritaville backing and sub your version. If you don't have it surely someone can help you out - let me know.

Ok Debbie...cool. Thanks for joining in here on my thread. That looks similar to the other Mexican Martini recipe I posted earlier but not completely. I believe supposedly, originally Trudys invented these things like 20 to 25 years ago. Since then many others have copied them and tweaked them. Supposedly according to the web, the following recipe is from a bartender that used to work at Trudy's - text as follows:
"This is a super Mexican Martini from Trudys! One of the best ever! We got this recipe many years ago from a friend who was a bartender at Trudys, so I know it is exactly what is served at Trudys!
2-1/2 ounces top-shelf tequila
1-1/2 ounces Cointreau or Grand Marnier or 3/4 ounce of each
1 ounce fresh orange juice
1 ounce fresh lime juice
2 ounces S&S Sweet & Sour
Fill shaker tin with ice and then the ingredients. Mix well by pouring from 1 shaker tin into another. Strain into martini glass. Garnish with olives and lime. Salt if you like."
I tried the other link I posted earlier that had Sprite and it wasn't nearly as good as this one above. Your's is slightly different so I will give it a spin too.
Next time I stop in at Trudy's I need to ask them what they do. Sometimes lately when I go to Common Interest to sing karaoke I will stop there first since it's practically next door.
I will say that County Line BBQ on the Hill also makes great Mexican Martinis. They have that really nice, large stone patio facing southwest with a large view of the Texas Hill Country and Barton Springs Country Club. A great place to catch a sunset. If you haven't been I strongly recommend it, and as I matter of fact I will agree to meet you and Jeff there sometime if you wish. They have a rib plate called the "Big Daddy" I believe which is like 2 feet long and the ribs are each about 1 foot wide with lots of meat. Yum!

Funny you mention the County line. I just went there last week (the one on 2222) with 4 of my friends. I love their potatoe salad. I had the mixed lunch plate with ribs & brisket with a glass of white wine. I'll have to try the mexican martini's sometime.

Bill, I don't have the backing so if someone wants to send it to me, please do!
I promise you when I get the tascam I won thru ebay and the program I used to have from one of our sweet SS friends here who's mailing it to me, I will be good to go again and I will record my version of Margaritaville and dedicate it to you. I should have everything by next week, knock on wood. :D
