My husband has just dropped the bombshell that on our way to UK next year he wants to go via Kathmandu and do the walk to base camp. Which would kinda free me up to come to the States for a couple of weeks
I would need to plan an itinerary...bear in mind i have no concept of distance living in a country you can drive and ferry from one end to another within 24 hours...so I would need some advise and help to plan to get to see as many as possible within a short space of time.

 so much to see so little time. For instance I would imagine that I could only fly to LA or SF from NZ so I would need advice on the cheapest, quickest way to get to NY or NO from there.

Um, Vicki,  I have some news for you.  The base camp via Kathmandu entails traveling Gorge road.

I see,  HE wants to travel to the basecamp, but you wouldn't have to experience that scary road since he'd do that while you can do other things !

evidently there are two base camps one in nepal one in tibet...one of them has the road the other you walk in.

It's heading from Kathmandu to Nepal I think because it's en route to Everest.
The gorge leaving Kathmandu for the climb to Nyalam is the photo I posted.  Not certain if that must be crossed for Nepal, Tibet, or both expeditions.

according to my Stephen its one side of the mountain in one country, the other side you walk in...dunno which side is the road and which isnt hon...all I know is I dont wanna be there would rather be in the USA meeting people I have spoken to for years online. My best friend lives in Tennessee, I have to see him and his partner if it is the only visit I make but if time and finances permit I would like to do NY Chicago, and new orleans

my friend works for a TV station and is a bass guitarist His mother and I share the same birthdate so I am always assured he will remember my birthday..however its always a day late cos of course we are a day ahead here He was going to UK this year and hopped to be there the same time as my son as they are the best of friends. But Adam isnt travelling this year

there will be constraints, financial and time. The reason for the trip is to see steves family in the UK. He wants to do the kathmandu thing which will mean he isnt going to be around to whinge and moan if I want to do my own thing...and what I want to do is spend time with folk I have become friendly with over months and years of chatting. Troy (TN) and I have know each other for 6 years, thats a long time to talk to someone you have never met. I dedicated my new kitchen to him
I have met most of the UK friends I have, although obviously I want to spend time with them as well...a good friend is a member of the brit pack which is a cabaret style group doing rat pack stuff...I want to see them perform. Joe and I have done a number of duets online, he has said as soon as I can firm up details he will arrange a gig where I can do a guest appearance.
Then there is the very nice friend who sent me a condenser mic...I would kinda like to say thank you in person.
So many to see so little time especially when I have to do the family thing as well
All up the trip will probably be 8 weeks with the bulk in UK I may be able to squeeze 2 weeks in USA

I know I am not on here much anymore....but a trip to Texas on your way from California to NY would be great!!! you could have a one night lay over and meet all the texas folks and maybe we could get some people from Oklahoma and from Austin to come too..  Keep us posted on when this is going to happen so we can try and put something together....woo hoo!!

Possible.. We could ask....He knows the directions......  By the way when is summer for you?  Is it the same as here in the states??  June thru August??  Maybe that is a dumb question...Oh well. I had to ask anyways....
