Jian is right regarding the mic could be the weakest link in your set up. I started recording with a really crappy mic I'd bought at Radio Shack that was supposedly made by Shure to equal an SM58 but it didn't. I have several different type of recording mics now as well as many different live performance mics and my absolute fav mic to record with is my trusty real Shure SM58. Even though it's built for live performing it's durable and has a clean sound, it's been dropped a million times and the ball is dented in like 4 places but it sounds just as good as the day I first plugged it in. If you're looking for condenser mics Samson makes some damn good ones for the price but they need a +48v Phantom Power, some mixers have this built in, you'd have to check your specs on your mixer if you're using one.
