I haven't a clue about this person, so if in asking a question I've said something offensive, I apologise, but somebody earlier brought of Aleister Crowley. I don't know what his relationship is with the Masons (assuming there is a link between him and cryptic masonry), but I was also wondering if the Ozzie song "Mr Crowley" refers to him..

Just the sort of crank that gives Paganism a bad name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleister_Crowley
I am not an advocator of the black arts
In simplified terms I simply allow the lady to guide my path, just as Christians trust in Christ, I trust my Goddess.
I adhere to the "and it harm none" theory
Blessed be

If it's actually true, Yes it does give Paganism a bad name, however I think the stigma attached to his philosophy evolved a long time after he died. I also thought he was a genius, and just "Out of his time". This is what I want to find out. Although he supposedly lived a life of hedonism, he was a extremely philosophical, a master chess player, a womanizer ![LMAO LMAO](./images/smilies/emot-LMAO.gif) , and I thought he was a founder of certain Wicca (was it in those days ?, I know NOTHING about any of this and don't claim t) concepts being denounced but I thought part Witch.
Hold on.... I'll shut up, and post something if I can find it. I'm not sure he was a "bad man", or if Magician, and founder of Occultism, and areas of Mysticism carried a stigmn based upon a conservative time period Europe.... This was what I was wondering.. I thought he found the Penta ??? (sorry, forgot what it's called)
Quote: Crowley was born on the 12th October 1875 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. His parents Edward Crowley and his wife Emily were wealthy brewers and the epitome of respectability. They were also devout Christians and staunch members of the Plymouth Brethren sect. They brought up young Crowley in an atmosphere of pious religious narrow-mindedness, against which he constantly rebelled.
When you think about it, if he became quite respected for his talents, however denounced his pious upbringing, just in lieu of his "Not ascribing to principles of his orthodox surroundings" in those days, or even today in such a setting would stigmatize him.
brb
Did these start out as "black arts" though ? or did they just evolve into "bad", and "Ominous" arts over time ? Was it a form of mysticism, and philosophy in his day ?

.
.
Anyway, my reason for wondering about Masons is that they too are stigmatized (or were) as a secret society, with some "dark" undertones, and his name came up when I was reading something about High Order Masonry (something else I know nothing about)

Quote: Crowley soon discovered that he was excited by descriptions of torture and blood

that and bi-sexuality for purposes of worship were enough to make me decide I didnt wish to know anything more about the nutter
It is these sorts of people who make me tread a solitary path Steven. In any religion, or any organisation where there is politiking and echelons of power within the structure, there will always be those who try to twist things to suit themselves. This is true in all religions, Pagan, Christian, et al
I have no wish to belong to a coven, I read as much as I can, I absorb what feels right to me, the rest I dismiss. I refuse to be dictated to by man/woman about how I worship or where I worship... I simply acknowlege the lady who walks beside me.
for me it is THAT simple. I wear the Pentacle always as a sign of the path I walk. I have had some mistake it for a star of David. Others who when they ask and it is explained to them, turn away in disgust and mutter things like "you are too old for this rubbish"
People call me eccentric, some laugh, some are uncomfortable in my presence...but you know I have polarised people since the day I was born so tis no more than I am used to.

Quote: "you are too old for this rubbish"
Of course they haven't a CLUE what they are saying. From what I understand, it's a VERY practical belief, and is actually quite logical. Certainly closer to nature, and the earth, seems quite balanced IMHO, What I heard, I liked... Unlike how I was brought up that was totally fear-based :( ( anyway,I have no clue what I am talking about right now. I'm pretty tired)
"Too Old" ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) . These people perhaps think it's "Goth" or a rebelious phase. Too many people decide that rather than learn new things in life, they have enough knowledge, so they become (even more) set in their ways, and feel it's fine to judge, I never understood why so many adults feel it's OK to remain intolerant rather than question and learn about something rather than feel it's justifiable to dislike something they know nothing of in real. They don't really know, or care to know what they don't like, They know all about Witches, they saw the wizard of Oz many times LMAO. That's the mentality too many have, and it's not good. It's not a healthy thing for the individual, or those around them.
Whatever belief constructs, or religions works to make the individual comfortable, I suppose if they don't harm others (and I know this becomes quite questionable when discussing religions as groups where a group becomes intolerant of other belief systems, and feels compelled to believe that only their belief can be the :fact:, and fences go up.... Ah... I need to crash, exhausted and can't keep a thought
If beliefs do something for the individual, and aren't impinged upon others, it's all good as far as I'm concerned. Life, and Death are pretty intense, and whatever works in between, I type in here :worship:, That way I forget about my probs and have nothing to pray about.
OK, NIght all..... I'm sleep typing..HEHE
