...not counting at home (unless you want to).
Last year’s Christmas party, the Principal throws for the staff. We have the whole bar, but reserve a back room with tables and a buffet.
He chooses it, ‘cause he knows the owners, it’s real close to the school, and many teachers go there for lunch, or it to meet after work because it’s real close.
Actually it’s very large back-room area, but with sliding dividers, so it can be partitioned as needed.
Many just stay at the bar most of the time, so it works out.
Anyways, the room we usually have had been taken, so we got a really small area, I’m guessing 12’x 24’ but maybe even smaller. I remember they had to keep part of the partition open to the other room for the food buffet for a while before the other party came in the next room, cause there wasn't even enough room for that.
I had to cram my station and the mic stand at one end where the doors led into the room, and had to figure out where to put the speakers. I ended up adjusting the tables at the other end and could only use ONE Main at the other end.
This was the first time I even used only one Main for a gig, but actually, it sounded fine.
Oh well, at least the end-of-the-year party is outdoors in a large deck outside, and it’s open to the bocce courts and other area, so that’s a lot of fun.

Actually, I may have an even SMALLER room this Friday.
My buddy who’s a good/popular singer and was a karaoke host for a bar in town with a house system (owner’s daughter does it now) just got “us” a gig for a birthday party at a restaurant nearby. He’s got no equipment of his own, but someone asked him if he could do an birthday party in a back room at a restaurant, and he came to me.
I wanted him to just do it himself, as it’s only $100, but he doesn’t have a functioning car right now and seems to want me to come. I think he might feel insecure on how to patch everything together.
Maybe I’ll just set it up for him and leave, then come back to pick him up and let him keep most of the $$.
I’ve been in that restaurant many times, but never in that room. I’m remembering that it’s kinda small.
I think it’s “one-speaker” time again.

Smallest room I did, was probably approx 12' wide by 24' long. I only ran 2 SP4 bi-amped :D didn't need the sub. 1 floor monitor. This was the place I ran the kids shows as well. That show was packed - we ran kids from 6-9. However, the regular nights coincided with a decent karaoke club directly next door that advertised regularly. They were packed, we sometimes got the overflow (but we were a non-smoking restaurant so that didn't help). Plus they didn't want to do any advertising, so I gave it up.

In the gig I described, the Main was on the opposite side of the room facing the singers, so also acted as the monitor. It worked out very well.
I’m going to try to employ that as often as I can, if the distance isn’t too far, that is.

That is a question you never ask a woman unless you see an actual baby being delivered on the spot....

Yes, definitely not the best pick-up line.

Maybe too wise, but never too old. A woman is the woman she is for life. The outside may change some, but the good stuff is always there....Personally, I like grownups- twinkies and Hollywood manequins bore me...Oh yeah, and it IS in her kiss- and her laughter. Just MHO, of course...

Well, there was a Gymnasium in Winslow Indiana, but we got relegated to a side room, with a drop ceiling that must have only been six and a half feet. Lighting trusses were no good to use cuz they would be scraping the ceiling, and the speaker stands were all sitting on the lowest setting. It was a good show though, had a 50's and 60's music theme that kept things real interesting.

Private gigs can get small, many garages come to mind. But for a bar, 10x 20ish.
It was a small bar with an even smaller front side room. Man it was like playing in a small glass jar.
I should've used less, really didn't need two monitors. I was riding them faders hard all night (feedback elimination, avoidance). What's bad is if they (bar owner) want you in a back room but want the sound throughout the bar. Oh but not too loud in the back room, or not too loud in the bar...
The large garage parties aren't bad though as long as noise ordinances aren't an issue. Mine have always been in the country with neighbors invited. As long as the weather is good the garage turns into a band shell / dance floor.

Well I ended up not playing there, but I'll share with you just the same. A friend of mine had told me about this Marina that had opened up a new bar and that I should check it out. So I did the 45 min. drive to this place, missed it once, had to turn around and go back.....
Well I walk into the bar area and I sit down at the bar itself and I'm looking around the place. The bartender says to me, 'hey can I help you, you looking for the restroom' and I'm like no, I'm looking for where you set up the music when you have entertainment. And he tells me that I'm sitting in the spot where they normally have the musicians play. Okay, here's the scoop, this place is smaller than the current stage/dance floor that I work from. It's only got 5 tables and 5 bar stools, so we're talking 25 people tops and that would put everyone elbows to a**holes. I'm like, you've got to be kidding and he's like no, you can just set your machine on the bar here...........and I'm like dude, I couldn't get half of my stuff in here to run a proper show...sorry but I don't work with a Walmart special, I have amps, speakers, racks...etc. so forth and so on. So then he tells me, 'well hey I guess we could move a couple of bar stools out of the way......
This guy was completely clueless.
I decided it was best I didn't say any thing else, I smiled and waved goodbye and laughed my arse off all the way back to the car.
Later on, I ask my buddy had he ever been to the place before. His reply as I figured was no. Go figure.
Take care gang, seeya around.
James
