My tascam US-122 broke, so my hubby got me US-144 which comes with a different program and although I'd like to return it, they don't take returns.  Soooo, I'm stuck with this new piece of hardware and software which I don't have a clue how to work.  Does anyone have any experience with this and can you please help?

If they won't accept it, then sell it on Ebay, Luly!

If not Ebay, try Craigslist.com. You might get more local buyers so you wouldn't have to pack it and ship it. Just a thought.

How about trying to learn the new model program?  Did it come with a manual?

The US-144 is just an up grade of the 122. You can still use the old recording program to record with. Just make sure you install the new drivers for the 144.

I've never sold anything on Ebay or Craig's List, but I will definitely look into it if all else fails!!  Thanks, Donny.

The manual has very little info.  The link to the one you sent me looks more detailed, but geeeesh, it looks so complicated compared to what I'm used to!! I'm gonna give it the old college try though! I think I can, I think I can!!  LOL

Thanks, Lonman!

Hi Jian!   When I installed the new hardware (along with the drivers), it made my computer freeze up.  The techy guy who helped me the first time with the 122 told me I need a 2.0 usb port for this one.  He lives in West Palm Beach, so it's a bit of a drive to come over here to Miami plus he's always so busy.  I've been waiting 2 months now...and getting very impatient!! Unfortunately, like an idiot I deleted my old cubasis program to make room for the new one..and I am kicking myself now!! I don't know, I may just buy a friggin' 122 on ebay and sell this one.  I'm tired of dealing with this.

A new USB 2.0 adapter can be installed.  Not only for this unit, but for all the other standard 2.0 piece of equipment that are out now ie new printers, hard drives, jump drives, scanners, external cd/dvd, etc..

Get the usb 2 adopter that Lonnie link to. You do not need to be confined to using cubasis to record. There are easier program out there; like Audacity which is free.

So do you mean this takes the place of the port? Or do I also need to get the port?  Or is that the same thing?? I'm so confused.

I'm ready to order it but I gotta make sure what I'm doing first.  I'm trying to remember if I had audacity at one time.  Do you know how cubasis works?  That program was very simple to use.  Simple is good!

It's just a standard PCI card with USB 2.0 ports AND a Firewire connector if you ever need that connection - some video cameras, mixers, etc..  You may have to install the software first - depending on the instructions.  It does entail you opening the computer up to install it, but it isn't hard to do.  Once the computer is open, you find an available PCI slot (provided you have extras available in the first places - you should be able to tell if there are little long knock out panels on the back of your tower - chances are you have at least 1 free).  You install the card by simply lining it up & clicking it in the slot.  Then reboot your computer.  At this point it should see the new card & automatically update.

Yes,I have used Cubasis, which come with the sound card in my last pc. Audacity is even more simple.

Well, I called the Guitar Center again (where the 144 came from) and he says I DON'T need a 2.0 port, I just need to adjust my buffer settings.  I downloaded audacity and I can't find where that is.  I've got the tutorial and will try to learn this new program, so we'll see how it goes.  Jian, I pm'd you.  Thanks Lonman, Jian and everyone!  I'll let you know how I do!

Hi Vicki!

Well, I spent all weekend stuck at my computer trying to learn this program, I finally got the basics down.  There are so many effects and gadgets I'm not used to.  I did a recording, but I'm not totally happy with it.  I'll sub it later, maybe you can critique me.   :?

Hopefully someone can help me with this issue:  When I'm recording, I can hear my voice reverb back but not in real time.  I adjusted the latency (slower) on the tascam but then I hear clicking and popping.  Any ideas anyone?

eek latency has been a prob I have had with various soundcards
I purchased an m-audio fast track and got rid of the latency BUT...it doesnt like me plugging my mixer into it and when I plugged my mic into the xlr socket directly into the soundcard, I couldnt hear myself.
Then to add to my probs a benefactor who shall remain nameless sent me a condenser mic...I was back to square one...couldnt plug straight into soundcard cos it had no phantom power...mixer has phantom but soundcard doesnt like mixer...what to do????
Problem solved, I bought a preamp. Plugged that into the soundcard, plugged condenser into preamp...I can now hear myself and the music and have no latence WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO.
this has been MY project this weekend. I have recorded two songs doing things this way both subbed last nite see what ya think Luly.

Just cos I am feeling somewhat smug that I overcame my issue...doesnt mean I think i know all...I seriously would love some tips from anyone techy...for instance the preamp seems to take all the natural bass out of my voice...how do I compensate for that?
