For those who are looking for one more protection of their format shifted files plus a fairly portable file sevrer then you might check out the Netgear SC101.

http://www.netgear.com/Products/Storage/NetworkStorage/SC101.aspx

It is capable of holding two ATA IDE drives and is very small for mobile use.  It connects to a router and files can be shared along your network.  Netgear software has to be installed on each PC that wishes to access the files on it.  This is because the SC101 formats hard disks differently than a PC does.  You cannot swap disks between a SC101 and a PC: the data will be unreadable.

It is not a cure-all security to keep your files form being copied  or stolen but unless they have the software on any PC they try to put the files onto, the drives (and files) will be useless to them.  I use two 500GB drives in one of these for archiving files at home.  I have not used this case for shows.  For shows I use the TeraBox II which holds four 750GB IDE drives (you can put up to 4 IDE drives of any size that you want).  I use it with a mixer/amp combo and a laptop for an ultra mobile show.  You can see more info about the Terabox II here:

http://www.ymiusa.com/product.aspx?prodid=466&catid=273

The Terabox is USB and can be plugged into any PC with a open USB port.  3TB of mobile file storage should fill anyone's needs.  I have had zero problems accessing the enclosure for music or mp3+g's at the same time when using it with clubDJ pro 2.

Just a couple of options for those looking for external storage options for their mobiles. Both enclosures are very small and very mobile for quick setups and teardowns...

tigr27,
they also have a network access storage drive in the same configuration. The difference is, you access it through your wifi card.

You could in theory have the drives out in your car, or van in the parking lot, and be accessing the music files. If your Laptop were ever stolen, it wouldnt have any media files on it. (drives are 12 volt, and can run from the car battery.)

I have set up a computer for a client like this, and it works well.

yeah I use the wireless connection in my laptop to connect to my server at home in case I need anything... I could also set up the enclosures in the back office at the clubs and connect using wireless in the same manner as having the drives in my vehicle...  music, videos, karaoke all wireless and out of any potential damage from drunks, spilled alcohol etc... I have two mobile cart similiar to this that I set the laptop and mixer/amp on top with the external drives down below.  It makes for all forms of combinations and possibilities...

nice setup, I guess you are all wireless? All of my system is wireless, 2.4 ghz digital video transmitters and recievers, wireless mics, and wireless powered speakers. Makes setup, and teardown real easy.

How is that Terabox different from other portable harddrives that's NOT as big?  I mean it's pretty cheap for a 3TB of space?  Compare that to a seagate portable harddrive.. what's the diff?

you can put any 4 IDE drives init.. I personally have the 3TB of space on it... the enclosures do not come with any drives... the advantage is that you can throw any 4 drives you have laying around into this box (just like any external enclosure- usually) the size of the actual enclosure is just a little bigger than if you simply stacked 4 bare drives on top of one another....  the difference between it and a seagate portable drive- for example- is whatever you want to make out of it... it is very easy to swap out hard drives in this thing... with the price of IDE drives falling daily, it is very easy to build a much cheaper multiple terrabyte enclosure for fairly cheap than it is to buy a multiple terrabyte enclsoure with drives installed already....

I prefer these. They are NAS, so all my computer shares the storage and it's GigE so they are fast.
