Does anyone have any voice exercises to help hit higher notes?
For example: Marty Robbins song "Don't Worry" or "Don't worry bout me" it is listed both ways.
I have been told I do the song well however, I know I am clogging/cutting the high end.
For those not familiar with the tune there are only a couple high joints in it.               It has a great old country blues beat.
Thanks !!!!!

Well, from past experience, if you're having trouble hitting the high ones in certain songs, the most reliable method is just lower the key so that you're not straining. That's what I do. I doubt that "vocal exercises" will increase your range that much. Also, as we get "older" the vocals tend to get a little more strained when we go "in search of" notes we really shouldn't be attempting due to the individuals natural range. Therefore...the almighty key changer. :)

I exercise by lifting my hand to the karaoke machine and pushing that little button that lowers the key.

I do many repetitions per day, and it’s become almost effortless for me.

:)

Blue, your wife could help you reach those high notes. I'd explain how, but I better not do that here. (use your imagination)

Then again, that really wouldn't work at a public karaoke place.

I've been reading about this guy's technique (link below) ... I'm thinking about trying it. Cause a big range is something I do NOT have... there are tons of songs I have to pass by because they are too high pitch for me.  :crying2:

Who knows if he's legit or not, but I watched the video he has online, and it got me even more interested. I guess you'd have to use your own judgment. Some might say i'ts a  ripoff scam... but, again, who knows? It might be well worth the money.

Another thing I do, is I don’t worry so much about singing a song exactly as the original.

There are few songs that, even with the key change, those few highest notes still don’t work, or I have to make the lows too low to get them,

so I simply change the tune a bit on those notes.  Usually they’re just a few notes, so why mess up the whole song just to accommodate those couple notes.  Stay in the same key, and it’ll sound fine.

Hell, I’ve heard professionals in their older years singing their own songs do that, ‘cause they couldn’t hit the notes they sang years ago when they originally did them.

I decided on "passing" along some BS.

Practice singing Kate Bush songs in her register,  and also Minnie Ripperton songs !  You'd be amazed how people will look at you after you practice when you're up on stage singing

"Loving You",   and   "The man with the child in his eyes" in real voice

Sorry,  I couldn't resist.
Warm ups probably will help you to sing more comfortably within your range,  depending on your true vocal register, not sure how much you want to push certain things..  That sounds like vocal coach/ instructor material.  Straining might not be the best thing for your voice.  While I always wanted to be able to sing in first tenor range,   I can't,  will never be able to,  as we age, our register lowers,  even with slight infections, colds, higher male singing voices tend to lower the older a person gets.  I'd seek out the advice of a person who can actually watch you, and help you in person.  Anytime you strain you risk injury, especially over a prolonged time period.

If your God given register is bass or baritone,  no point in trying to clone Journey vocals,  there are some things we'd like to do,  but we can't.   Your question of course would be better answered if you gave an indication regarding whether or not you ever were able to hit certain "high notes",  and if such expansion is reasonable for an adult male with a set vocal range such as your own..

IE..  Dan Fogelberg recently had his tonsils out,  His register dropped over 1/2 an octave.   He will never regain the range he had prior to surgery, and bad infection. THing is, his current register sounds BETTER than ever !

IMHO

You get what you pay for when you take lessons I suppose.   If you take lessons from a local singing instructor in Canby that  considers "Nad Impact" a legitimate means of accompanying a vocalist, I hope you and the coach appear one day on AI..  You'll likely make it to the finals !!    There's a future in shows like that !!  Audiences like watching people getting kicked in the crotch <go figger>

Yeah, but I always went by the saying…

“The early worm gets eaten by the bird”, but that hasn't worked that well for me.

It's strange how over time these analogies get distorted to the point that they aren't even logical.  This is the original metaphor that's somehow become a "philosophical gem".  It was created by Jethro Smith in Arkansas. Seems over time, people have attempted to find meaning where there really ain't none.

I did not as of yet try the really tight pants , at 46 I am not sure tight pants are a good idea.
I did come up with a couple of ideas though,
I could at the time for the high notes.
a) smash my thumb with a hammer
b) get a pair of vice grips/chastity belt combo
c) introduce my wife to my girlfriend (not really !!!! one woman is more than enough)
d) pull a nose hair . yeeeewwwwww !!!!!

Normally My voice is deep for a speaking, or singing voice. But I have found that for High notes, you have to Back off the mike a lot, and Let it out.......(kinda like screaming at the kids). I didnt think I could sing the songs with the higher notes till I tried that.  Now, I am doing a lot of songs that are fairly high.
