Hello everyone. My moniker is Blue. I like to try to sing mostly blues tunes, even though they are harder to find.
Just a little about me. I am 46, married to a wonderful bride for 25 years. 2 Boys one a member of our Air Force. (I could not be prouder of him.) and one in high school who is just starting to drive AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!! We live in Oklahoma City USA. The bars here are hit and miss as far as karaoke.
I have been "singing" karaoke for about 10 years, over the last 4 years I have had my own machine and we have great parties at my house with all my buds. I have just purchased a VocoPro 555, I already had (2) 15" Seeburg speakers with hardtop tweeters/midrange,4 smaller speaker, light bar etc.., a series of mikes both cordless and wired and have managed to get at this time (all legally bought) about 3,000 songs.
We live on 10 acres in the middle of nowhere and can crank it up with no problems.
I was thinking about maybe trying to start doing some smaller bars as I have always been the "KJ" at my house and my friends houses and have seen many real professional KJ's at work and tried to watch what they do right and wrong.
Do you think the equipment I have would be sufficient for a start?
The songs are a mix of everything from old country to new country, blues, rock, jazz, standards etc...
P.S. how do you keep anyone from doing Paradise by the dashboard light and Love Shack as I have noticed they are usually crowd killing shouting matches.
I look forward to visiting with you guys and learning a little more about the inner workings from so many knowledgeable people.
Thanks,Blue.

Actually, looking in SS again..... there are now 4 of us:)
BlueStainedShoes
Bluekaraoke
Blutabu
Blueridgeboy
But most people now call me Charmin, not Blue, except for a few who still call me that...
(oh, and my specific "blue color"... it's the grassy kind, grows mostly in Kentucky)
I have roots in Oklahoma as well, my father is from Broken Bow:)
Glad to meet you- I'm going to go listen in SS for a bit, hope to find a song of yours in there....

Oh, and as to your questions about karaoke related issues, take them into the "techie" or "karaoke discussion" forums..... they're bound to be overlooked here in the newbie forum. Lots of people to give advice &/or suggestions over there though.
I'd help, but I'm clueless... I'm not a "regular" KJ, just a fill in... I prefer to sing than anything else.
PS... I just gave you 500 points, in case you want to put up an avatar, have fancy colors, or add a title, something like that....

You're welcome....
And have fun at the new bar. New places can be fun, but then again, I find comfort in going to the same ol' place repeatedly.... *where everybody knows my name*:) If/when I go to new places, I have to go through that whole "stage fright" process all over......
I think there are some more members here from OKC... pretty sure I've heard that mentioned, maybe you'll meet up with them sometime when you're out.

The only way to avoid a screaming match on Paradise is to become known as the best singer of it so no one else tries.....
No help for love shack....

Welcome, lil boy Blue. I don't spend much time in the forums here but occasionally drop in to see what's up. I love blues music but rarely listen to it any more and have never really tried to sing it. I can't wait to hear you sub a blues tune. As for your KJ question, I'll say this. Once you go with PC based karaoke, you'll shelf all of your disc for safe keeping. We used to do the same thing, host home parties on a VocoPro duet. After converting our disc to MP3+G and moving to PC based software, we have so much more time to sing. Imagine songs back to back without any wait or disc shuffling. Or even worse, that occasional song that won't play because of finger prints/smudge or a scratched disc. Just my two cents :2cents: worth.
Patiently waiting for that blues sub.
Robby

Thanks for all the warm welcomes !!
I am going attempt to record some blues subs this weekend.
I will try to get them on soon.
I am working on changing to a PC base as well.
It is a little difficult hauling all the disc, keeping them in order when other people at the "gig"want to help you with your equipment.
My favorite " HAVE YOU EVER LOVED A WOMAN" And a really cool
kinda hard to find track called "RAINBOW 65". I have one of the only copies of this I could find. It was actually recorded by a friends band with the vocals left out.
I will get them on asap.
Thanks again for the welcome
Blue

Welcome blue - i will answer one of your questions. Paradise by the dashboard lights sometimes isn't a horrible thing, but it does land in the "to long of song" catagory. If someone puts in a song like that one or American Pie when I am busy I simply ask them for a different request because of the length of the song. I explain on a busy night it isn't fair to all the singers waiting and give them the option of doing it, but I'll have to cut the song short by fading it out.
Good luck - Babs
