Hello folks...
While doing a Google search for information on my VocoPro 8800 last night, I came upon this site.
What a stroke of good fortune!
First, a little background.
I'm a long-time DJ, going back to the mid 70's, and a radio jock even before that. To say that I might be a little "long in the tooth" is perhaps an understatement.
But the Karaoke world is brand new to me... and I'll be spending a lot of time around here soaking up as much relevant information as I can... and contributing whenever I might have something useful to offer.
I'm Canadian, from Southern Ontario. Retired manager of emergency services (fire, safety, security) for our federal government. I guess you could call me a hobbyist, or weekend warrior. I don't DJ/KJ for a living... I do it because I love it, and it keeps me young. It's a hobby that pays for itself. But, lest you get the wrong impression up front, you should know that I am NOT a "bottom-feeder". My DJ/KJ services are priced well above the average for this area... and I find myself working most weekends.
I seem to have been bitten by the Karaoke bug last summer/fall, and began offering a limited library, and decidedly inferior equipment to my DJ functions as an "add-on". It proved very popular at our Christmas parties, so I've been plowing the business's revenues back into more CD+G sets, and just this week, de-commissioned my GO80 for the latest aquisition - a VocoPro 8800. I'd given serious thought to the 9000, but couldn't justify the extra $600 (Canadian) for the convenience of digital key change.
So, here I am, trying to figure out why I can't seem to get a decent signal from the 8800 to my monitor, when I came upon this site. It turns out that, apparently, the automatic video switch I installed is the root of the problem... and I'll need to pick up a manual one. (Thanks - Technical Forum).
Oh yes.... obviously my real name isn't "Wally-World", nor Wally, nor Walter, or any of their derivitives. Wally-world is the nickname of the town where I live, and my real name is.... well, let's just say I refuse to play "Goodbye Earl" at any of my functions.
Cheers
Wally-World

Don't think so Anthony. It isn't just the name... it's the whole theme of the song.
Back to my VocoPro 8800 situation. I got tired of messing with RCA to Coax transformers, heavy CRT-TVs, extra cables, etc... so picked up a new 15" LCD-TV today... mounted it on a music stand... added a manual A/B switch... and I'm back in business.
Now, it's a matter of smoothing out my hand-eye coordination, and getting used to the VocoPro's strange (to me) cueing system.
Cheers
