YOU JUST GOTTA COME TO PORTLAND!!!  And come on April 6th!!!    :oh yeah:

Then back up to Tacoma!!!

And you all could sleep over here in Canby:) I have a huge home.

Seriously, (sticking tongue at Vicki)... I can do the *breakfast in bed* thing too.  :D  Of course, mine would consist of all those fattening southern foods like eggs, hash browns (crispy on the outside, nice n' moist on the inside), bacon, sausage, pancakes with peach/pecan topping, home made yeast biscuits with sausage gravy, honeydew melon & sliced tomatoes on the side, and whatever else you little love birds desire. Heck, strip dance while ya eat? Sure:) I can arrange that too. hahaha

Nah, for real... You have to get up here one of these days. Tammy and Bob are SuPpOsEd to make it out this summer, if all goes well.... how cool would it be if you came at the same time? We'd set this town aflame, or die trying.

.

I might have to invite myself as well  :D

YES YES!! To Lonnie, Charmin and Morgan you listen!

Hey NEW ZEALANDERS are always welcome here! I know---since IVE VISITED THERE!! Auckland, Timaru and Tauranga--the Bay of Plenty!

And dont forget---Flipper and Odie are here too!

4TH of July weekend is the prime time to come--we got the 20th Anniversary Waterfront Blues Festival for 5 days this year---complete with over 100 artists, blues cruises on the river, 3 main stages and FIREWORKS! And dont forget they have an entire Zydeco/Cajun section of the festival.

And HEY--u just never know I might have a blues band gig that same time--so everyone can come hear some HARMONICA  DRENCHED BLUES--FEATURING--SWINGCAT ON LEAD VOCLS!! :)

And for ISIS: there's salsa dancing right across the river wed-sat at the place I had been KJ'ing at!

Flipper has his show at a local pub on Monday nights and rumour has it that Charmin might be starting to do a bit of KJing at a place near her!

And Lonnie is only 2 hours up the road!!

WHAT A DEAL!!

Hmmmm maybe if we knew evryone was firm on coming up--we could get PETER PARKER from KS itself to come up and do a remote THATS KARAOKE SHOW!!  You just never know......................:)

Morgan--how long have you lived near Timaru?? I was there in the summer of 1981 on  South Pac cruise on my navy ship-the USS Oldendorf. We tied up at the pier in Timaru. We had almost 10K visitors lined up for tours of the ship. I wonder if you were there at that time and maybe saw the ship. Who knows maybe I escorted you around the ship on a tour!! :)

If you come up here in May, June, July, or August I would suggest a really nice alternative to Portland Karaoke.

How about Karaoke on the Oregon Coast!  Lincoln City now has 3 venues all within walking distance from each other. We could rent a beach front home for a couple of days cheap when you have 8-10 people or more) See Link Below, and we could really party!

Nobody has to drive because everything is 6 blocks or less from the rental. All rentals are beachfront, Decks w/Hot Tubs, Vista Views and just a few steps from the sand and beach combing. With 15 blocks or so are the Factory Outlet Stores and Quaint little coastal retail stores, not to mention amazing Seafood Restaurants.

http://www.a1beachrentals.com/

Check out the property listing and then view the imagery ..... Many of these are first rate and can accomodate up to 20 people.

We do this twice a year with friends and love it.

Hey, it's just a thought

OK Topher.....I know you want to forget about us east coasters, but we are HERE! lol

Think about it, if you come to FL, you can see the sun come up in Ft Laud in the morning, see the sunset on the west coast at night and visit Disney/Universal the next day!

And I can give you any number of places to stop and sing along the way....

Thanks for all of your suggestions.  I never could make up my mind so I decided not to go anywhere for our anniversary.

Ironic thing, Rich suprized me by taking me to Shreveport, LA for a long weekend of gambling.  We had a lot of fun.  Didn't get to Karaoke while we were there but we did find a couple of places for next time we go.

Hey we got GAMBLING here in PDX and on Friday Sat night about 20 miles up the I-5 at the NEW PHEONIX casino they have one of the BEST KJ's in Portland---he even plays LIVE SAX behind u----just the perfect thing to sing JAMES BROWN-I FEEL GOOD or PAPA's GOT A BRAND NEW BAG. Or my favorite swing/jump blues----ROYAL CROWN REVIEW----THE WALKIN BLUES!

In fact only Portland can offer the traveler and discerning KARAOKE CONNOSUIER:

A virtual SMORGASBOARD of the finest WEST COAST KARAOKE,

A WORLD-CLASS live blues scene,

THE HOTTEST SALSA dancing scene in the Northwest,

Numerous convienient casinos

The ONLY URBAN DOWNTOWN SALMON AND STEELHEAD FISHING IN THE WORLD!!

The ONLY PLACE you can catch GIANT STURGEON in an URBAN METROPOLITAN SETTING!!

THE ONLY PLACE you can see SEA LIONS and OCEAN SEALS wild in a close in CITY SETTING(120 miles inland from the sea).

UNMATCHED scenery, mountains, rivers, ocean beaches and rugged coastline and.......................OUR VERY OWN LIVE VOLCANO!!

AND ABOVE ALL ELSE: We have BlueStainedShoes, Odie, Flipper, LONMAN(a couple hour drive to the north) and OF COURSE YOURS TRULY.......ME.......THE SWINGCAT HIMSELF!!!!

So again there REALLY IS ONLY ONE PLACE TO TAKE A KARAOKE AIR VACATION TO:

PORTLAND, OREGON---HANDS DOWN!!

:drums: :worship:  :dancin:  :oh yeah:

Hey, I would argue with that, there are many fine ones around where  I am.

A WORLD-CLASS live blues scene,

Ok, you got me here but my best friend's blues band is pretty good.

THE HOTTEST SALSA dancing scene in the Northwest,

We have a lot more latin population here than NW, better Salsa.

Numerous convienient casinos

As do we here within a couple of hours of driving.

Quote:
The ONLY URBAN DOWNTOWN SALMON AND STEELHEAD FISHING IN THE WORLD!!

Again, pretty bold statement. We live right by the sea, we get a lot of fishing around here as well. There are many places you can go and charter a boat for a deep sea fishing.

Quote:
The ONLY PLACE you can catch GIANT STURGEON in an URBAN METROPOLITAN SETTING!!

Again, if fishing is your thing, I would get excited about it.

Quote:
THE ONLY PLACE you can see SEA LIONS and OCEAN SEALS wild in a close in CITY SETTING(120 miles inland from the sea).

Aha, we got you beat, I can get to see sea lions and seals within 15 miles from where I am. Actually, if you go to San Francisco, those creatures live at the pier, walking distance from the downtown area.

Quote:
UNMATCHED scenery, mountains, rivers, ocean beaches and rugged coastline and.......................OUR VERY OWN LIVE VOLCANO!!

Ok, no volcano here but we have hills, mountains, rivers, ocean and famous highway 1 that rivals any coastline on the west coast.

In addition, you can get to snow in 4 hours, beach in 30 minutes, national forest full of redwoods in 45 minutes Napa valley for finest wine tasting in an hour (all of this from where I live, much closer from San Francisco if you stay there), down to Monterey for world famous aquarium and hang out at places where John Steinbeck hung out in his days, best food in the world (at least most diverse), fresh sea food, fresh produce from central valley which supplies half of the produce for the west coast, not to mention all the tourist traps like Alcatraz Island, Koit tower, Golden Gate bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, China Town, etc. etc. etc. Too many to mention.

Oh, and did I mention the weather? Constant pleasant, low humidity weather that goes rarely below 50 degrees during the winter and rarely above 100 degrees during the summer. Typical weather, rainy but warm during worst winters, about 80-85 degrees and sunny during summers. Can't beat that.

Quote:
AND ABOVE ALL ELSE: We have BlueStainedShoes, Odie, Flipper, LONMAN(a couple hour drive to the north) and OF COURSE YOURS TRULY.......ME.......THE SWINGCAT HIMSELF!!!!
Quote:

Ok, that may be an attraction of it's own. I can't say too many KS folks live near me.

I have to say, there is a reason whey San Francisco bay area is one of top 3 vacation destinations in the nation and top 10 in the world. I guarantee you that you won't be disappointed coming to here. I have been to Portland, it was nice but can't really compare the two places.

And Ive been to the bay area. And much prefer PORTLAND to the bay area...........

Bay area:

-WAY WAY TOOOOO MUCH TRAFFIC

-WAY WAY TOOOOO EXPENSIVE

-WAY WAY TOOOOO CROWDED

-WAY WAY TOOOOO SMOGGY (when u get inland from the immediate bay area)

-Bay area gets COLD AND DAMP MANY more days than its nice and sunny. Similiar to Portland in that way.

-Salsa Scene---I said HOTTEST IN NW. NOT CALI.

-Skiing---we have world class runs within 40 minutes of Downtown. Not half way across the state!

-NOCAL does have beutiful and wild coastlines.

-Portland has national forests within 30 miles of downtown and amazing rivers and creeks within the same distance. In fact The Willamette flows through downtown. And the MIGHTY COLUMBIA with The COLUMBIA GORGE NATIONAL SCENIC Area is only 20-30 mins from downtown.

-Yes there are sealions that haul out on the docks in the bay. The ones in Portland are 120 miles inland and little more than a 20 minute drive to see(and hear).

-Right now the SALMON and STEELHEAD are running right through downtown Portland in the Willamette River and the feeder streams such as the Sandy and Clakamas Rivers---right through city parks, out back of people's neighborhoods. Its not more than a 15 minute drive to some of the WOLRDS FINEST CHINOOK SALMON fishing and all withing a Downtown Metropolitan setting.

-The Columbia River IS THE WORLDS FINEST OVERSIZE WHITE STURGEON FISHING  location(oversize=up to 12 feet and 1500lbs). The Willamette River in DOWNTOWN Portland is almost as good.

-Additionally there is world class Smallmouth Bass fishiing throughout the lower Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

So factor in all of the above and the result is still the same: PORTLAND HANDS DOWN!!

Visiting and living are two different things, I admit, I don't live in Portland but I have visited there. I can only tell you from what I know.

-WAY WAY TOOOOO MUCH TRAFFIC - Yep, can't disagree there. If you visit though, you don't run in to much traffic during the days.

-WAY WAY TOOOOO EXPENSIVE - Again, if you live here, yes it's expensive. If you are visiting, it's not that much more than anywhere else.

-WAY WAY TOOOOO CROWDED - This is a bad thing? There is a reason whey this place is crowded. Everyone WANTS to be here.

-WAY WAY TOOOOO SMOGGY - Not sure about Oregon but California leads the nation and world on emission control by everyone, including auto and factory, etc. I don't find this area to be smoggy at all, I have been to places around the world and this place one of best. Not sure about comparing to Portland but last time I was there in downtown area, it was smoggy too.

-Bay area gets COLD AND DAMP MANY more days than its nice and sunny. Similiar to Portland in that way. - No way you can compare bay area to Portland on sunny days. Bay area only has about 4 months of rainy season and rest are sunny and bright. It's not like Southern California where it only rains a couple of months a year but I don't see cold and damp. Maybe in the summer evenings, along the coast line including San Francisco, where fogs come in it does get a bit chilly.  However, day time, you can't find weather like this in too many places. Our humidity is the best part, while we are near the ocean, we have low humidity so 100 degree is very tolerable.

-Salsa Scene---I said HOTTEST IN NW. NOT CALI. - Agreed

-Skiing---we have world class runs within 40 minutes of Downtown. Not half way across the state! - Again we can get to snow in a couple of hours. We have at least 2 ski resorts within 4 hours that has been used for Olympics in the past. Can't beat that.

-NOCAL does have beutiful and wild coastlines. - Yep.

-Additionally there is world class Smallmouth Bass fishiing throughout the lower Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

I don't fish so this part has absolutely no interest. I guess if someone is interested in fishing, Oregon may be good. However, we have a river system that is second to none that flows from Lake Tahoe to the ocean. I know they seed the rainbow trout there so fishing is decent also. I would say Bay Area still has it over Portland area.

It's kinda fun watching you two hash this out:)

Never been to the bay area in Cali...... but of course, I don't go to Portland either, Lmao. I'm a bit too small town, Portland traffic scares me, so do the masses of people. Canby's biggest highway is only 2 lanes in each direction, and it gives me road rage bad enough at 5 pm weekdays.... Nope  .... I don't do well in large cities.

But, have fun arguing about it guys. I'm sure your scaring the livin' hell out of Sharon. Now she'll never come see us at all.
