I still don't know what a decoder is.  What does it do exactly?

I believe he means an external unit that connects to the digital output of a standard cd player to be able to show the cdg portion on a tv.  I have heard of these a few years ago but have never actually seen one in action & if I recall, they didn't really work alot of the time as most cd players didn't have the ability to read the subcode.

This is what he's asking for.  Honestly think he'd be better off just picking up a new cdg player.

Thats actually one of the original terms.. We were using this decoder about 7 years ago.. The encoder is used to rip cd's.

Google numark decoder.

That is another type of decoder, but he asked for a decoder to connect to a standard cd player to be able to play cdgs.

Exactly like that.  I linked to that same one too (well the 2nd one down).  Not sure if he needed the mixer part as he said he already had the Numark player (assuming it was a stand alone cdg player) assumed that he already has a mixer since that player don't have mic inputs.

Well like stated it don't work with a large majority of the standard cd players out their.  VP does list a handful that are compatable, but even make a claim that this list may not be accurate.

I would say you would probably be better off buying a new cdg player over spending almost $200 on a piece that MAY or may not work with your cd player.
What happened to your Numark?  Which model?  Were you happy with it?  Repairable?  Is it for home or pro use?

it's a Numark cdn-25+g  The right side quits every once in awhile the left side has worked perfectly but it is an embarassment to say the least when you have someone up singing and suddenly the music quits then you cannot play a disk on that side for the rest of the night the player just reads no disc

Something that hasn't worked right since you bought it?  New or used?  Anyway, i'd just try to have it repaired first - could be something very minor plus probably due for a good cleaning & alignment anyway.  Should be done every 6 months or so.

I used to run a leader decoder with my sony cd player alongside a pioneer twin tray, effectively giving me three trays to run cdg's with. worked okay but occassionally it would start graphics of the first track of the cdg disc when I loaded it so when I switched to that player I would have the intro screen of the wrong song confusing the singer that requested a song. So I quit using it.  Might be that I got a defective unit though.

It is a defect in that particular model that has been talked about in another forum I go to occassionally.  One of the trays has a habit of breaking. Gets sent back for repair and not even three shows later after getting "fixed" the same tray breaks again.
