I am starting to convert my cdgs to harddrive. Which format should I use? I want the best sound. I have not found any articles explaining the difference in sound quality between mp3+g and wma+g. What I am really wanting to know is which format and which bitrate to use for getting the same sound as the actual cdg. Thanks for any information! I have around 700 cdgs and it would be a real relief not to have to carry around all of them to the different clubs. Also the hard drive I am using is a 250 gig external. I dont want to start converting until I ask the experts, here at the forums. Thanks again for any info.

If ripping at 192 kbps or above, mp3 is the way to go.  If ripping under 192, the wma is better.

For professional shows, ripping at a minium of 192 is recomended.

Personally, I ripped all my cdgs at 256 kbps using the mp3+g format.

BTW, Lonman will probably disagree with me.

I also feel that MP3+G will become the "standard" for computer based karaoke, as the manus that offer downloads of thier music use the MP3+G format.  Plus it seems that all the hosting/playing programs support MP3+G, wheras only MTU uses the KMA (aka properitary WMA format).  But MTU has the ability to play the MP3+G format.

It appears that there may be some licensing issues with mp3 on the horizon.  WMA is a Microsoft format and they are happy if you use it because it keeps you tied to Windows.  Argueably, WMA sounds better.  However, most hosting programs use mp3.  I do believe that is about to change however.  We could all switch to flac which has the best sound and is free but I don't see that happening.  So, considering all of that.  I suggest you just get drunk and forget it. :drunk:

Thanks for the info. Also it seems the cdg ripper from compuhost wont rip the files right to wma. after ripping most of them are 23 kb. no good. So I have to redo using mp3 format.
