The ideal set up most would agree include at least 1 sub.
Personally speaking I have never used one and have never seen a KJ here in NJ that does ( at bars).
I use the RSQ MK22 as my cdg player: It is an inexpensive rackmountable single cdg player. Little slow on load up but otherwise acceptable for use. I would suggest this player and also the NUMARK CDG 25N. This is a dual pro player but does not have the digital key change the RSQ has . so together they would be perfect and allow you diveristy and back up.
As a mixer I prefer the BEHRINGER 1222FX over the Mackie DFX12 as it is again rackmountable and I have used both in the past and never had a problem really with either one. Go with the more powerful amp and don't discount CROWN amps as they have a great warranty (versus the Behringer) but you can't beat the Behringer prices.
I've never heard the Behringer Speakers but I have seen KJ's with worse speakers and they sounded OK. If you're just starting out don't get too deep in debt!
Personally again I would stay away from the maximizers and compressors and all the other equipment until you get started and see how it sounds. Stay with the basics ---- MIXER / AMP / SPEAKERS / PLAYERS / MICS
once you're set up - you can add the other enhancemnets IF needed.

1) I agree completely. I never use a sub for a karaoke show, though I do when I have to do a straight DJ for a private event. I don't like the way they sound for karaoke....
2) You might also look at EV speakers- very nice sound
3) Total agreement on keeping it simple to start. I would still consider compressors if your speakers don't have them built in (EVs do). They DO protect your speakers....

A sub has to be properly set-up to sound good. Many don't have them crossed over at the proper frequencies or just use the built in fixed frequency cross over (If it has one) that usually is set too high for most sub situations in the first place. Or have the proper power behind them.
Subs are fairly common for karaoke out here, like I said, I won't do a show without at least 1 - it makes that much of a difference between having one & not!

ummmm.... Don't think those puppies will work for me.
OK, so assuming I skip the sub, extra amp, and crossover for now.
Need wireless mics (at least two)... what do suggest?

Personally I suggest wired mics for two reasons. The first is price and durability. SM 58 is a great mic and almost indestructable. The second is the reason that people sing karaoke in the first place. It 's not about the music because they can sing at home. It's about being noticed. Wireless mics tend to get passed around and people don't get out of their seats. There is no "Look at Me!" factor and that's what they really want. They might tell you they don't want to be noticed, but yeah, they really do. Your crowd will be happier if singing remains and event. That's why I use wired mics. Got to get them off their behinds.

The thing I like as a singer about a wired SM-58 is that I know exactly what it will do and seeing one at the stand gives me a good deal of confidence.
This may not matter for people not quite as daffy about karaoke as me, but there are quite a few out there who have been singing for a long time and the SM-58 is a standard for a reason.

You don't NEED wireless mics --but if you want them
This is something you shouldn't SKIMP on
Suggest you have only 1 wireless and the rest wired to start
You should get UHF and a decent brand ( Senneheiser / Shure / Audio Technic )
Stay away again from Vocopro or the lesser brands and inexpensive ones.
Normally I use wired 95% of the time but for those situations (dj) and or Karaoke were wirelss is needed I do have a GEMINI DUAL SET UP FOR $49
THIS IS NOT A GREAT SYSTEM but sounds ok and works for me and if it drops or breaks WHO CARES.

I agree, but the problem is most places I've seen, there's no room for a stage; they move a little bar table in the corner out of the way to make room for the KJ and their equipment and make room for the speakers and there's barely any place to stand let alone sing. I went on Wednesday. The KJ had crappy speakers, they sounded like they'd blown along time ago; the volumne was too loud, too much bass. She flipped them around to point in the corner (don't know why?). You had to really scream hard into her taped up wireless crappy mics (couldn't tell what brand they were with all the tape). The only reason I go, its like a 1/2 mile from my house and it's the only place that has karaoke within 20 miles of where I live.
Suppose I need to find another place; but most of the places I've been to out here are like this.... pass the wireless mic around and the owner isn't willing to loose more than one table so they can max on patronage. I much prefer a stage. Luckily the place I will be doing business, already has a bit of room for setup and could move tables back, so I could do some wired mics and a pseudo stage. I was just considering for when I get shoved in the corner of some bar like I mentioned above.
On the flip side, I've been to a place where they had a proper stage, even background singers, stage lighting going with the music and props to make you look good.

I agree- not only do you not NEED wireless, but wired always sound better. However, stay away fron Sennheiser! They are actually TOO good. They are great for pro singers, but because of their clarity they are VERY unforgiving. Singers that are average to mediocre will sound HORRIBLE
