As a KJ/Entertainer what do you do to promote yourself and your services?

Word of mouth has worked great for me.  In addition where I presently have been for the last five years advertises me on their billboard and radio and newspaper.

My show is advertised on the marquee at the bar. It is also advertised in the local "Flyer" magazine, which is a free classified mag that goes out to a particular target area. In the case of my bar, we take out a full page in this publication that includes a coupon for a free 10 ounce beer and another coupon for 20 wings and a pitcher of beer for $11.99. My karaoke show and the showtimes appears in one of the corners of this ad. It is only about $160 a month for the bar owner to advertise on a full page that goes out to the 5 zip codes closest to the bar, which for the St. Pete area where I am represents about 100,000+ people easy.

My old karaoke bar used to advertise in the coupon book that is given to people when they check into hotels. They told me that was very very inexpensive. I'm not sure how effective that was, however.

For my part, I hand out my business card to pretty much everyone I meet. It has my number and e-mail address and the karaoke hours and address of my bar. Those cost me $19.99 for 1500 cards. I don't know how many people that actually brings into the bar, but I do know that I get the majority of my private parties and weddings through this method.

We rely on word of mouth for our promotion. So far this is working great for us.
