I meant that they purchase one copy to loan out to many people, only one person at a time.....this way they get around many licensing fees....they are suppose to have no more rights than the average Joe...lol......I know I'm stretching this principle a bit..... :) ....just trying to keep things going

But they bought the original.  Loaning out a purchased disc is not illegal.  Renting out is not illegal - although publisher fees to the store that rents must be paid through the appropriate agencies.  If the borrower makes a copy is when it becomes illegal.

You missed my point.lol....not a question of legal copies, I read from Doug, but allowing access to multiple points, one at a time.
Sometimes it's hard to convey an idea through typing, and I think we get a lot of hard feelings around here because of it.......could be why I've joined and quit so many times....lol.......life is much more fun making friends, you can get a stiff neck always looking over your shoulder.......peace

Well I kind of see where you are going, comparing a library to the network possibility.  I don't think you can really compare the 2.  He was describing basically buying (presumably) 1 set of music to put on 1 main server to allow access to 5 different shows at the same time - regardless of whether there is a lockout or not is beside the point, the point is 5 shows would benefit from 1 set of music.  If you were to run 5 shows the 'legal' way (sorry but it is a point as well), you would need to purchase 5 sets of music.

Ok, Let me play the devil's advocate. Let's say (this is all hypothetical) That you have a server sitting in your office at home connected to to computers at five Clubs/Bars. The karaoke host at a location punches in a song number, and that particular song is served up, and for the duration of that song, it is locked out from use at the other four Clubs/Bars. Let's assume this is some sort of jukebox system on the server, so it is actually being played off the disk. Multirigging..... Yes/No??? :O

Actually someone on another board came up with that same idea not too long back and I did some research.  There is absolutely no law against it so far as I can see but... and this is a big but... you would have to do it like this.  Everyone who used the service would have to own a share in the CDGs consisting of an equal share devided among the users to 100%.  The server could not be held by a public company nor the library publicly advertised, which is to say you couldn't sell subscriptions to the service.  You couldn't have any songs loaded on a hard drive, not on the server, not anywhere.  You would have to have someone or something loading the disks at the server per song request with the exception of common songs which could reside in RAM on the server.  So long as it is in the process of playing there could be no gripe.  As far as I can tell there is no maximum distance or time specified between the CD and the speakers.  The only problem I see with the idea is getting high speed access at the venues.

But once the common songs are being played at the same time (off the ram I am assuming is what you mean), then it would be multirigging.

Yep, so you would have to be sure they weren't being played in two places at the same time.

Yeah unless all 5 places by a fluke wanted that particular songs at the same time.
