There has been a lot of sniping on this forum, of which I am also guilty, whatever my motives.
Does anyone wish to change its face and display a forum that is helpful to all that enter.
Are you capable of biting your tongue.
Could you not set an example of solidarity to music and not the politics of it.
Illegal stuff as already pointed out has and always will exist.
No one here can change that.
It has been suggested that a separate forum be created for legal issues.
I applaud that suggestion.
We all know FAIR is simply a magnanimous gesture expected by many and received by few.
For the sake of music, can the informed simply not help the uninformed.
It will cost you nothing.
If someone asks for an illegal password, answer with humour as Jerry did.
This could be a good forum if you allow it.
Do you really want guests thinking “What a sanctimonious load of…”
Imagine having 100 more posters.
If you allow it, it will happen.
Sarah

I believe there are 2 people sharing the same username. I'm not sure if it is meant to be easier, or to confuse.
Sarah- any chance of registering a new name for the sake of clarity?

I see your point Sara. I laid down my battle axe...
(or wait, it wasn't ME who carried the battle axe... I carry a splitting maul) I still HAVE it, mind you, but I don't walk around swinging it any more.
I have gotten in a few scraps here, and come to the conclusion that it's just... not worth it. People disagree at times, heck- that's healthy to do. But the petty arguing gets old. If I see something dumb happening these days, I usually just wander in a different direction until it gets settled. It would be nice if we all could be a bit more harmonious, but I don't see it happening. (and my god, I'm starting to sound like a Flower Child, hahaha) *Peace everyone*
Every playground has it's bullies, and this place always will too, I imagine.

Most people here are so locked up in there own little bubbles they dont even understand a post from someone whom represents a different country or social strata...
but they still want to project their opinion or laws upon those who post or judge them..
As a sailor in the USN I have been there (portsmouth and london) and represented my country in the proper aspect and I will continue to do it on this forum.. I have the utmost repect for you Sarah and Jerry and I will defend your right to give your opinion on this forum or any other I love you both..
My old country is Scotland and even with the broad tongue I have problems understanding your posts You must be cockney?..But dont quit....
They want to apply rules and tuck all of lifes problems in a comfoftable little box or use drugs to ease the imaginary pain... It dont work that way... And they are easy to recognise they only know black or white They live in a black and white world no colors whatsoever and have tunnel vision...

While I agree it's not a good idea to flood each and every thread with superfluous political rant, NEITHER extreme is a good idea.
Quote: Illegal stuff as already pointed out has and always will exist. No one here can change that.
Fewer people taking part in illegal activities due to an understanding of what's illegal, and how adamantly opposed to certain wrong doing others are, begins change. I agree that opinions as well as contextually discussed legal areas shouldn't enter each and every thread, however to make statements such as the above statement, and the following: Quote: We all know FAIR is simply a magnanimous gesture expected by many and received by few.
can be construed as condoning "unfair" by passively allowing it to slip by (in our opinion/ individual ethical constructs) when viewed. Similarly, saying it's acceptable to "bite your lip, and allow a wrong to occur", is often a very unhealthy philosophy.
Problem is "unfair" usually seems so much more forgiving when it's not us at the receiving end of the "unfair act". To accept "fair is magnanimous expected by many and received by few" means to take action against unfair when ? When it's "us" at the receiving end of Bigotry, or theft ? There's a fine line a person can cross by turning our back to certain things.
People feeling emphatic enough about something CAN in fact begin change. Legislating change must start *someplace*, (in fact a huge bboard isn't always a bad place to exchange ideas regarding such issues)BUT to take the attitude "NO ONE here can change that" is not a healthy perspective. Might as well say "I'm not going to vote because I'm too small to make a difference".
I've stated it before, and I'll state it again. Many have been brave enough to join the military, and fight for "fair", so others can live in a land that prides itself on attempting to enforce "fairness". (I realize attempts are not always 100% fair, so let's not get into Iraq). My point being, or the concept -If I don't deserve to be the target of unfairness, why should I passively sit back while I see you being treated unfairly ? is not a bad code to live by. There's just too fine a line between "Ignore it" because often in the process of doing-so we are condoning it. Many of us believe "fair" does, or SHOULD supercede being a luxury, some of us perceive it as a constitutional right ! Women want equal rights, minorities want equal rights, and things don't change by mouths being kept shut. Especially in the face of a blatant "wrong".
Just a thought, and just my opinion.
I do agree that having some balance would be a good thing.
Sanctimonious Steve

Good post Kappy.
You did however appear to take rather a narrow view
My objection is not one of healthy deliberation.
There are ways to inform a person they are incorrect.
Jerry always said, There are ways of telling a person they are wrong.
Brownie points, yes.
My sugestion is fight for your views by all means.
I hope I never indicated otherwise.
Just, could you not do it better than is being done.
I am well aware I am under fire from cheap shots.
Frankly I find it imature. I expected better.
SARAH

I think it's important NOT to take a "narrow view" on these issues Sarah. It's not all or none. You have a huge international group here. The group will never self-moderate indefinitely. It's just not realistic in Internetland with such a vast membership base. Ultimately it's up to site moderation to limit ad hom attack, and sanctimonious rant. Too large and diverse a group here in terms of age, sage etc. to expect self moderation when somebody states something that raises dander, or strikes nerves. There're variables that work in a similar manner to "roadrage" on the 'net. Anonymity, safety of livingroom, and feeling impervious to harm (while people are passing by, posting and venting). If you make a statement to drivers "Try to curtail your roadrage" will it really do any good ? Perhaps some good, if I say "no good", I contradict my previous post LOL
That aside, I agree with you that tact is a good thing to learn, but to request it being applied in such a venue, and to work "across the board" isn't realistic. It's idealistic. While I'm aware that it's also unrealistic for individuals to expect NO law infraction, we aren't generally disagreeing here. I'm stating "grey' is why there are moderators.
So, perhaps PM'ing, having site authority, or "ombudsmen" notify the infracting party perhaps inadvertently condoning illegal activity WOULD be a good thing. In terms of it being realistic to expect it to work though, that's another story.

I know my statements suck !
That's what I hate about me too. If rejoining this site with the SN "Polyanna" would help me feel better about the world, and see things thru rose-colored glasses, I'd do it in a NY minute LMAO
Oh yeah, speaking of time. Those of you in the US.... Tonight we turn the clocks AHEAD one hour.. Is Indiana two hours ??
