I have a suggestion that might help, at least, let the two parties co-exist.
I hear some of us would like a Utopian karaoke forum, free from the political uncertainty that shrouds our beloved industry.
Others, want the politics of karaoke front and center. First amendment, and thank God for it. And really, until there are clear lines in the sand, we all should be watching for breaking news. It's not all pretty ... What's new Arizona?
Here's the thing. I don't see too many hardware related posts in the General Discussion Forum. I imagine if one was posed, some of us would kindly redirect the poster to the Hardware forum, no?
Moderators - How about a new forum devoted to current events in the world of karaoke politics, news, and other controversies and conspiracies? A question pops up in General or Hardware ... redirect it to the Legalities and Politics forum.
Rodney King said it best, "Can't we all just get a long?"

I never said that. I did say you don't have to introduce your own favorite topic in every thread.
Unfortunately the impersonality of the Internet means people will do things they wouldn't dream of doing in person -- for example constantly butting in to others' conversations to talk about their issue of choice. All that is lacking is common courtesy, which is difficult to practice on the Internet at best.

Karaoker, may I remind you of your starting argument
Quote “Most here jump on newbies and run them off before they become regs,, “
I read the Private message you sent Jerry.
I realise why you felt offended, but you posted him after he explained the misinterpretation.
I know he respected you. Yet you turned on him.
You then have the audacity to post this topic.
I put Jerry down. Not you.
He’s a clever man.
And Morgan, you’re the most important person in your own lunch break.
Not mine.

NO, I use MP3+G zipped files made from the original discs that I own, and keep at home on in the equipment trailer.

After much deliberation, we have come up with the perfect scenario.
When a person registers, depending on their level of expertise,
They are either given a sniper’s rifle, a white flag or a Red Cross.
The snipers may pack hunt and completely demoralise a newbie (white flag)
The Red Cross may help save the white flag.
Duh
Sorry, you already have this in place.

RE-READ my original post. I could care less what you do with your original, as long as you bought the original, and don't "share" copies. Make a million copies/backups I don't care. Just keep them to yourself.
The SCUMS are the ones that get their music illegal from downloads or copies from others (ie: they NEVER bought the original), or the ones that "share" their originals they bought.

And I am supposed to trust you becasue of ??????????? Your honest face?
Sorry, but I won't play copies becasue there is no way I know if they were from originals, or from illegaly download tracks.
If they are copies of originals, I don't know how they sound, and I am not going to look bad becasue some singer brought in a disc that s u c k s.
Bring in the ORIGINALS and I will play em.
Or better yet, one of my competiors plays about 1/2mile from where I am at. Feel free to attend his crapy show, he'll play ANYTHING. Then when you find out that he s u c k s, feel free to drive the 1/2 mile to my show.
Once again, if you were a regular, I would try my best to accomidate you.

I've posted in it....it's a at least a 3rd generation account by someone who wasn't even present......enough said by me, I give up on you.....I'll sing your mp3+gs, but they had better be in sync.... .......I will never let another Kj touch one of my original cdgs.......if I lived closer, I'd probably be a regular........from the posts I've read.....I think you run an excellent show, and I wouldn't let a difference of opinion keep me from experiencing it.........take care....

While I'm with Karyoker, and Hamsamich IMHO has said it best, I'll add my $.02:
1) Hamsamich and I have been among the few posters who keep saying, in effect there are unanswered questions regarding copyright laws. While we believe that there are too many unanswered questions, many of you think you know the answers. I Don't/You Don't. There is confusion, as well, as to what is criminal and what is civil; who really has the right to sue (publisher or karaoke manufacturer); who might actually be inclined to pursue KJ's; and what kind of judgement might be due a plaintiff if he were actually successful?
2) So, if you feel a Newbie is asking an inappropriate question, there is no reason why you can't simply say "we (this forum) believe such activities are illegal/unethical and, therefore, provide no support regarding the matter, even for personal use"! PERIOD, THE END Remember, for personal use any type of download etc is legal. Any advice given to anyone beyond that quote would be provided in utter ignorance (we are not IP lawyers).
3) If today's post regarding SC's/Stellars's activitities in Phoenix is real (see RIAA, KAPA, BMI thread), it supports my theory that the whole format shifting matter was a hoax. Sending out a press release is not the same as sending "cease and desist" orders.
4) For those of you who are not familiar with the suit brought by Chuck Berry (see Chuck Berry thread) let's not be so hard on ignorant newbies or anyone else when there are karaoke manufacturers that have KNOWINGLY broken copyright laws.
5) I have believed for some time that some of the postings, on several forums, regarding copyright laws have been provided, directly or indirectly, by (one, some, a few) of the manufacturers! Said posts, if nothing else, just drone on and on about consequences of ignoring the copyright laws, like it all hasn't been said before. Who, other than a manu, would go on and on about the legalities relating to pirating. Doing so, if nothing else, enables the manu to continuously get the attention of newbies who didn't have access to the previous nauseating postings on the same matter.
6) Some of you are so intent in what you have to post, you don't really digest what others are saying. When I joined this forum back in the fall, Big Dog was lamenting the existence of HD shows in his area with pirated music, and started a thread herein that went on and on. He was chastised by this forum as being concerned about and unable to compete with shows that had thousands of duplicates on the HD, poor quality reproductions of tracks, inferior sound equipment and on and on. I was supportive of Big Dog and explained that:
- there were many HD shows in my area run by experienced professionals
- that a HD with 70,000 tracks and 20,000 dups still leaves 50,000 unique tracks
- that the tracks were not of inferior quality
I was then chastised for supporting such shows. Today, of course, no one would chastise Big Dog for the same posting. And my redefining those shows for the benefit of those herein shouldn't have been taken as an indicator of support of them.

So you think it is correct to butt into any thread, based simply on your suspicion that illegal activity may be occurring, and change the topic to that of copyright?
No wonder this forum is having trouble. Taking a combative stance accusing new people of illegalities and going off topic all in one fell swoop.

When you have a problem understanding my post, I suggest you go back to the first post in this thread which dealt with abstaining from negativity. How ironic!
Being among those who haven't spent much time here anymore and have not posted anything in awhile until this week, the previous posting reminds me of why I had chosen to do so!

Start Promoting Karaoke Not Your Personal Views
Thats a tough one....most of the karaoke industry is very subjective and consists of personal views, from the best CDG to the proper way to run a rotation to the best sounding audio equpment etc. There is a fine ( but BIG) line between offering your personal views from past experiances and being down right insulting to some of the newbies. KJ's have been arguing about PIRATES since day one --get over it.
The only ones that will get CAUGHT are the greedy ones selling pirated cdgs for profits.
