Definately go pick up the DANGEROUS set if you like 90s rock. This set is on par quality-wise with the likes of chartbuster and contains many songs that you can't find anywhere else (mostly semi-deep cuts of 90s rock). I have seen this 13 disc set for as little as $16 on EBay, and I would gladly pay triple that if I had it to do over.

Dangerous????  90's rock????  Most of the Dangerous selection is 60's - 80's rock.  But I agree as to the quality, most kj's under rate this set.  It's also an 11 disc set.
There was a very short lived Dangerous Hot Hits series that recreated 90's tracks, but didn't seem nearly as comparable quality wise.

You people are the best. I just checked out the Dangerous set on ebay. I see you can buy the 11 cdg set for $20. I am definetly going to order those. The songs are the kind that I enjoy. If you really like a song, it makes it easier and fun to sing. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

I am in the camp that likes SGB to a point as well- if you know the songs and the correct words without looking. I personally feel they do some of the BESt 80's hard rock music out there. Their MUSIC for Def Leppard, Poison, and Stone Temple Pilots rivals even SC to me. Their words on the other hand are laughable....

Dangerous is an amazing value as is All Hits. Neither has the respect they deserve.

Finally, to really prove I am a no good hack, I don't see anything wrong with some of the Backstage discs. I like their Billy Joel, Eagles and Doors CD's quite a bit. You can skip the Phil Collins and others, but on the whole you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Just my $.02 :2cents:

If I were to get another Eagles disc - since I couldn't replace 8125 from SC - i'd opt for the Zoom versions.  These are done well.  I have the BS disc as well, Get Over It is actually a very decent version, so that & Take It Easy is all I list off that one.

TT- let me point you to a few tracks that I feel are good, but once again- just for the music, not the lyrics-

Interstate Love Song- Stone Temple Pilots
I'm A Believer- Smashmouth (SGB-65)
Drops of Jupiter- Train (SGB-65)
Pour Some Sugar on Me- Def Leppard (yes it's shortened and badly synched, but the music rocks) (SGB-14)
Dirty Deeds- JOAN JETT (???)
Every Rose Has it's Thorn-Poison (SGB-14)
You Really Got Me- Van Halen (SGB-14)

SGB may be a lot of things, but it is not MIDI.

The Blondie songs are good (not lyrics, now), as is "Genie in a Bottle", "Dream A Little Dream Of Me". The "Alone Again Naturally" and "If You Could Read My Mind" are the best available anywhere -- better than Chartbuster or SoundChoice.

I thought it was common knowledge that most of the Dangerous sets on eBay are fake!!! Have you heard that same, that is why I ONLY buy Karaoke that is New Sealed in the original packaging.

some of SGB has to be midi.  how about thier version of carolina on my mind by james taylor?  my cellphone ringtone sounds better than that version.  listen to it and tell me that isn't a midi file.  even my brother and his wife, who don't normally do karaoke, looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I played that song, then we all laughed and I deleted it.

I've bought several sets on ebay - a couple for myself & for prize giveaways, all were originals!

I found that SGB, though not always the highest quality, are darn good for the money. There's a lot of variety there.  Believe it or not, some of their tracks are really outstanding. Two that come to mind are War Pigs and Son Of A Preacher Man, both better than sound choice.

However, as a karaoke host, if I were to recommend a collection for home, or even starting out as a host, I would go with the Supercore collection. I think it's up to 38 discs. Great quality, variety, and up to date.  Don't want to buy that many? Supercore was originally KJ Tools.  You can find that 12 disc set on E-bay rather inexpensively. The versions are the same as Supercore....

Much of their drum tracks are midi-sequenced or a programmed drum machine.  Also their guitar sounds don't sound natural to me, like someone plugging a guitar into a processor & into the recorder.  This much you can tell, but even Sound Choice seems to be using programmed drums nowdays as well.  There is no natural feel like much of their earlier productions.

Thank you!!

With respect to everyone, I STILL wonder why no one usually points out that Dangerous went out of business so long ago, and yet the same set of discs are still being produced and sold by people, who in all likelihood.... are pirates. Occasionally see originals being sold, but it seems rare.

Sorry about the slightly off topic vent. :)

There are certin songs on SGB that simply ARE NOT available on other brands. And there are certain versions that I prefer that simply are not avaible on other brands. And for being so disliked---there sure are LOTS AND LOTS of KJ's out there that have LOTS AND LOTS of SGB in thier song list. That alone makes a statement to me thatr SGB really isnt all that bad. As for the original idea of this thread being for HOME USE----there's no better bang for the buck interms of variety of selection as with SGB. I have no problem with SGB and often will choose an SGB version over a SC version. Personal preference and I make NO APOLOGIES for that.

Same reason you can still buy the DK Millenium sets 7 the Premier & Applause series - not sure of the availability as of now, but someone most likely bought the rights to reproduce.  Yes Dangerous went out of business years ago, as did DK, but you can still get both products.  Someone probably aquired the rights to Music Maestro stuff, why would be another story.  If the Dangerous sets i've bought were pirated, they are getting them all professionally pressed & printed - they weren't burns, that much I can say.  Priddis went out of business but sold their library to ProSing (or whatever the name is now).

Not likely! Usually the pirates feel it is easier to copy products from companies that go out of business. If someone purchased the rights they would be ADVERTISING everywhere that they did. As far as quality, I am sure most of us know how easy it is to make professional copies, and the cost is VERY LOW to have the BEST pressing companies do it. Again, it is all about the packaging, I only buy Karaoke that comes in the original packages.

My honest opinion to be frank is, it makes us feel better to think around these issues because of getting good deals. We should all support companies that sell original products in the original packaging, regardless if it is $1 or $1000! There are plenty of legitimate companies out there are willing to sell legitimate products are cheap prices. I have been told directly about some of the fake sets out there, and I think they are very obvious, again the tell tell sign is the packaging are they packaged or NOT!

And somehow *this* thread gets hijacked to the anti-piracy issue.

For gods sake, can you give it a rest? Or at least take it to threads where that is the topic?
