Hello KSers!

I've putting togoether lists of Favorite Karaoke Songs for when my friends go out on the town and when we throw karaoke parties. Just to give people inspiration, I've compiled 15 of my favorites songs and faves of a few my friends. But since we I grew up in the 80's (I just turned 30, and most of my friends are 25-32), our fave songs reflect this- heavy bias on 80s 90s hits.

Would love some Top 10-15 Songs lists that reflect folks who know more about songs from the 60s, 70s, and any favorite COUNTRY songs  are greatly appreciated!

Also, let me know the name (or pseudonym) you want me to use, location, and age. Thanks!

Raina
PS. there are some of my faves:
1. Gloria, Laura Branigan
2. We Belong, Pat Benatar
3. You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, Dusty Springfield
4. What I Did For Love, from “A Chorus Line”
5. Memory, Barbara Streisand
6. Since You’ve Been Gone, Kelly Clarkson
7. Voices Carry, ‘Til Tuesday
8. Torn, Natalie Imbruglia

I like songs because of melodic structure.  With few exceptions (regarding a couple ballad songs), not too into poetry,  Just raised and bred listening to pitches; meaning Poetry, and Lyrics aint my thang, the lyrics of some of the songs I love would end up driving me to slit my wrists assuming I listened too closesly, Similary Country is often gorgeous too in it's composition, but MY GOD,  that stuff can depress a bottle of Prozac... I listen to musical composition almost exclusively.. Keep this in mind because a few of you will say "Yech, that song is horrid, it's depressing"... Thing is, I still like the MELODIC composition

Among these songs in no particular order

Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody #2    (That dude could play rock)
Brahms Wedding March            (It's really ashame they had to apply it to
such a depressing concept however, I know)
Never My Love                        (Larry Ramos)   Association
Can't Find My Way Home          Blind Faith
Wond'ring Aloud                       Jethro Tull

The Wedding Song                    Paul Spooky (or whatever- Peter, Paul, & Mary)
Lay Lady Lay                            Toneimpaired Dylan
Ruby Tuesday                           Rolling Stones
Mr. Tambourine Man                  Should've let McGuinn sing all his stuff "Dylan"
This Is Your Life                        Commodores
Mighty Love                              Spinners
You can Close Your Eyes            James Taylor
Superstar                                 Carpenters
Souvenirs                                 Dan Fogelberg
Theme From Half Mountain         Dan Fogelberg
Angie                                        Rolling Stones
Angel of the Morning                   Whoever wrote it
Comfortably Numb                    Floyd Kramer  (HAHAHAHAHA---sorry)
Share the Land                          Guess Who   (Burton Cummings)
See me,  Feel Me                      The Who
Long Long Long                         Beatles
Dog & Butterfly                          Heart
Don't Let me Be Lonely Tonight   James Taylor
Thank You                                 Led Zep
Wear Your Love Like Heaven       Donovan L
Love is Forever With You             Billy Ocean
You Could've Been with Me          Sheena Easton
Amanda                                     Boston
To The Morning                           D.  Fogelberg

Kiss from a Rose                          Seal
Shannon                                      Henry Gross
Chevy Van                                   (I never would've thunk that song would grow on
                                                   me,  NEVER EVER)
Somewhere In The Night                (Helen Reddy version of B Manilow Comp)
Ballad Of Curtis Lowe                    Lynyrd S
I Love You                                    Climax Blues Band
MMMMMMM                                    Crash Test DUmmies (easily one of the prettiest
melodies written in a LONG time)
Into White                                     Cat Stevens

Sorry I couldn't think of ten,  but those are a few that came to mind.

ha ha!  I sang amos moses last year for the first time ever.  I love that song.  I'm not a very good singer, but I've heard it so many times I nailed it fairly close, plus Jerry Reed is easy to sing and I was kinda drunk, anyway, I got a couple cheers,  and I don't normally get those (except when i sing cake).  yee haw!

thanks everyone for the lists! esp the one with hits from the 70s– we're always looking for new things to try, and these are sure to spark inspiraiton. I don't know this Amos Moses song but after  all the endorsement, it'll be a must try. Thanks Topher for the most requested country list too– that totally helps. Country is really great to sing, and even though I'm much more of a pop rock and musicals person myself, and gonna have to do more research in that category!

Anyway, I just love finding out what other people sing! It give me a peak into your heads!

Does this mean "Picture" has been mercifully put to sleep? I will admit I don't hear it as often now, but I heard it again just last night.

Oh, no....I didn't consider Picture a country song, though it does have those twangy guitars. That song is still performed nightly if not twice a night...

1. Doobie Brothers - Rockin' Down the Hiway
2. Trooper - Raise a Little Hell
3. Powder Blues - What have I been drinkin'?
4. Sweet - Fox on the Run
5. Blues Brothers - Flip, Flop n Fly
6. Honey Drippers - Rockin' at Midnight
7. Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son
8. AC/DC - T.N.T.
9. Rick Derringer - Rock n' Roll Hootchie Coo

By the way.... Raina?

You said from "people older than you"..... but your age is not listed:)

I'm most likely older than you, and I like alot of older country songs, so maybe I can help you out. I'll try to put my thinkin' cap on. (if I can find the dang thing) Places around here are pretty heavy on country music, so I hear alot of what's popular in that genre.

:D
