Malmsteen I assume you mean ? Edgar Winter is quite a talented multiinstrumentalist IMHO... Malmsteen seems to live his whole existence flashing scales and modal technique but his compositions have no real heart, just glitz and flamboyance

Here's an example of Malmsteens garish display. While he certainly has spent MANY hours practicing scales in hopes of speed playing becoming something associated with his name, it's questionable TO ME, why he'd be considered more than a highly processed technician. Or another speed riff player attempting his own style of progressive rock.

He's just added shred to blues, hammer-on, pull-off's, and tapping, distortion and pinched harmonics...

I know, it's not what you might consider a traditionally "pretty" rendition, but for those that play bass given the spacing of notes, to play it with banjo speed hit the melody and bass line as well is interesting. Also you wouldn't believe what Stu Hamm is putting his cuticles through :shock:

While this isn't a gaudy display, What Stu Hamm is doing here is melodically pretty. At least at the beginning. He also does moonlight Sinata on bass

This should be fun! One of my favorite places that I played bass at in the '70s and'80s is having a big reunion. The Last Hurrah was an early place to play for some bands that made it nationally such as Quarterflash (Harden My Heart), Nu Shooz (I Can't Wait) and bluesman Robert Cray. I of course will insist on singing karaoke instead of playing bass! LOL That'll show 'em!

I never realized George Bensen had this nice a voice. (beginning part prior to full band playing, while he sings alone with his pianist) Although I've heard him sing unison parts along with his guitar playing, and of course I've heard his singing on his top 40 hits, I found this to be quite tasteful.. IMHO, a more aesthetically pleasing and different singing style than his conventional jazz style I've heard him use more than not.
When he breaks into full bandwork and plays guitar he goes back to his signature play and sing along jazz style...

Certain aspects in music training can seem almost embarrassing, such as solfege, and various aspects of practice technique for singers. Assuming you can get past that, this is an interesting exercize that discusses areas of resonation training I got into elsewhere.. This also shows why certain things just can't be described, or taught via internet typing alone. How the body, facial muscles integrate is technique that needs to be visually understood as well.

While I'm generally the last person to say "My favorite" in most activities. We recently lost my favorite Rock vocalist. If I had one choice of who I could sound like assuming I could sing, it would've been Brad.. Farewell "Rock Vocal Icon" :(
Brad Delp
Lead AND background vocals for the band "Boston" (at least their first three albums) found dead in his New Hampshire home. Brad was 55. Current COD unknown, no foul play visible, and he was alone when found.
