Hello, I have done some searching but I get a little bit of info here and a little there so decided to just try and get some more input.

Who makes the best karaoke music? Sound Choice or ??? By best I guess I would want the music to be the closest to the original that it could be.

Would you start off with one of the big sets and add to it or just start ordering differnt cd's?  We had a set of sgb's and that was about it.

When we get the set up going I am sure we will buy a good shure mic but what else is out there that we could get that sound pretty good but not quite in the shure class as far as cost?  I ran across some talk of a Behringer XM8500 Mic and so went to check out the price etc..saw a lot of remarks by people who have bought them and pretty much everyone really liked this mic.  Has anyone used this and if so what did you think and if not what could you recommend?

I am by no means an expert, but I'll give you my personal opinion...

In my opinion, Sound Choice is the best. Of course they have some songs that don't measure up to others here and there, but my opinion is that by and large they are the best. ASK is good, and so are Pop hits monthly.

The foundations are getting pretty cheap, and you can find good deals on ebay sometimes.

As for gear, I would just go ahead and invest your money in what is good. I haven't heard anything about the Behringer line, because  I have found Shure to be a winner and would rather pay a little extra to avoid problems down the line. Not to say that Behringer is bad, but Shure hasn't let me down in the 20 yrs or so I've used them to sing.

Some of the best backings I have found are Sound Choice, but like anything, you look for the best version of whatever you are looking for--and that can be difficult!  I have a real aversion to anything Music Maestro puts out--"Magic Genie" organ nearly every time.

I will be getting at least one shure for my wife to use but don't know about letting some of the rest of the fam getting ahold of them late of an evening and at the end of a keg of beer, if ya know where I am at with this.

Other mic's will be for everyone else as we learned with the dj/kj stuff that we did.  Had a guy get his mic one night and as I turned away I heard something pounding on the table and he is hitting the mic on the table and asking if it was on.

Sound Choice is generally the best as a rule.  There are others out there as well that are very good as well.  Zoom are also very good.  Most of the Top Hits & Pop Hits Monthlies are pretty decent.  Chartbuster is execllent for country.
Every manufacturer has their diamond in the rough too, but the above mentioned have fewer misses than other brands.

I am really trying to get away from SC (see the threads about their tatics in this forum).  I have been buying more and more ZOOM discs for ROCK, and Charbuster for country.  I subscribe to the TOP HITS MONTHLY, and they are good too.

Many singer will bring CDs to the show, because that's what they practice on..

And perhaps they are not sure you will have "Their" version..  :wave:

Yes, and some versions are different enough to throw me off, though as I get more experience that happens less.

One big reason I burn my own disk is the key change. I sing very few songs at their original key, and I have had lousy luck with new KJs getting the key change right. Some bad ones barely know what it is, and the CAVS people have that stupid display and setting where they have to drag it over and where there is no numerical feedback.

With my own disk burned with the key change, I don't have to worry about any of it. Though believe it or not I have had a couple KJs substitute their own version without telling me ahead of time....
