So, I've taken note of several mentions of autOKdj in the fourms, and decided to ty it out.  Now, I'm usually on my Mac and in iTunes when it comes to music, so leaping to my PC laptop, installing WinAmp and then a beta karaoke software package is huge for me.

So I'm lost.  I wonder if it is partly because I knew nothing of WinAmp before this install, and so I don't know all that much about the different windows and panes. I've figured out at least how to get some op3/cdg files loaded up into the library. And when I play one, I assume it is autOKdj spawning two video windows (one small, i figure to stay put for the KJ's monitoring; one big window, presumably to move into a second display for the singer/audience).  But as far as adding names and songs to a queue, managing that queue, what "EZ song entry" is for... I've lost all reason around it.

I'm not a technical slouch-- I'm a web developer.  But I'm not a KJ (yet ;) ). Maybe that's why I can't make heads or tails out of what's going on?

Because this is in beta, and community-built software, I totally understand and forgive the lack of documentation and any kind of instructional material available from the Wiki or elsewhere.  But being that there are a few users here, does anyone want to help with a short overview tutorial or just explain things?  Maybe folks who are knowledgable could even register with the autOK wiki and start the docs for them?

Sorry if this is noobier than noob.  But given the praise so far for it, I'd love to know how to actually use it myself.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I can't help you with this problem but I do know someone who can.  His handle is Toqer and he is the driving force behind autOKdj. He is a memeber of this very inactive board for karaoke software.
http://www.karaoke-software.net/forum any post there will stick out like a sore thumb and he is sure to see it.  Hope this helps.

I use autoKDj on my home system.  After installing winamp and the necessary plugins and loading your cdg+mp3s (.zipped) into the media library, it's all cake from there.  You'll want the playlist and media library open all the time.

Song Entry is where you queue up singers.  Just search for and double click on a song, enter the name of the singer and it's dropped into the next slot of the rotation.  You can drop MP3s inter-mixed as well.

Well, I didn't get things set up in time for a party that I just hosted.  So I went through a more traditional route:  I borrowed my friend's setup: a solid JVC player, his binder of discs and printed song lists, used our office's Yamaha PA and Hitachi projector, and then split the  video off to my own little portable TV that happened to be able to screw onto a camera tripod.  Wasn't the high-tech, super-portable solution I was hoping for, but it still was a crowd-pleaser!

But now that that is out of the way and the pressure is off, I'm back to playing with autOKdj.  And after adding a few dummy singers, I see how it manages the rotation-- that's very cool.  But how does one use the "EZ Song Entry" and "Tickets" features?  Has anyone used these with success?

I'm hooked on KJ'ing, so the sooner I can get my own portable setup going, the faster I can get the parties started ;)

tickets is used at toger's bar which charges $1 a turn in the rotation.  It is enter from a front end kiosk that is being run off another computer that is networked to your host computer. If you don't intend on going the electronic songbook route, you don't need to worry about the tickets.
ez song entry I haven't played with so I can't answer that.
