It's long.  But just watching 10 minutes of it gives you an indication of the physical agility involved.  IMHO this is much tougher than what I've ever seen when watching floor gymnastics.  Seems to me this is gymnastics choreographed to rhythm.

Try tapping your foot to THIS beat.  HEHE

This is young Wynton, and Branford Marsalis !  Amazing.

and if you find this type of free-form abstract jazz confusing don't feel bad,  I do too LOL.  It's a different type of musicianship that's tough to understand.  It deviates so much from melodic structure, those of us that grew up on "ballad" music style, likely have the toughest time grasping free-form jazz improv style... I STILL after all these years try to find part of the composition to hang onto, or look for a theme besides several recognizeable chord they all play in unison..

This man is a pleasure to watch, and try to learn technique from.  He has A LOT on you tube,  and takes the time to explain some of the intricacies of how standards such as this are jazzed up.  Method used,  modal theory (whole tone-scales etc), and various tastefull styles.  This brings jazz to an easier level of understanding. Most of us can conceive of music that falls into "the blues box", but as it gets abstract, it seems like a listener is thrust from a very visible area of tangible geometry, into linear algebra.. equations runoff in MANY different directions..

Take this standard "over the rainbow"

and of course,  here's an alternative to "metal" guitar shredding  :)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=iQChYrqUQzE& ... ed&search=

This guy offers jazz guitar lessons over the internet.  How much do you think he asks for 1/2 hour lesson.  LMAO    Can you imagine after watching this video, somebody saying,  "Yep,  I want to take a few lessons with that guy" ?.  This is a guitarists guitarist.

Here's a different variation of over the Rainbow  (Tuck Andress)

One more addition. For those of you that have some very basic guitar knowledge, you might enjoy this... This gives a very visual understandible and basic understanding of root position blues scale technique, and what goes on within root position scale.

Vicki,  here's some fabulous instructional stuff online that's free.  Paul Gilbert is an amazing guitarist, and he explains A LOT of techique,  I know your son plays, and if he's not familiar with Paul Gilbert's instructional series, he will likely enjoy this..

I've met Yngwie Malmsteen.  Everything about him is ostentatious, and inflated.

I never realized Edgar Winter was capable of acting this tranquil, and down to earth  LOL.  I've never seen him speak before.  Just watched his hyper antics onstage.

Add Rick Derringer to an Edgar Winter interview, and it's interesting to hear what influenced them as youngsters in the 50's.
