Hi all.
I am having problems with getting images on an external TV.
My setup is a Dell 8500 Laptop, Pentium 4, Nvidia GeForce 4200 Go (Dell Mobile) XP OS.
I am connecting my TV Via S Video socket on Laptop.
Both boxes are ticked on my Display Properties window ("Use this device as my primary monitor" and "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"), yet I can only drag stuff as far as the edge of the Laptop's monitor.
Do I need to install some extra drivers? Change Video Card?
Please Help!
Please post any replies in plain language as when it comes to computer lingo...well you guessed it, I know next to nothing!
Sincere Thanks for any help forthcoming.

First off, before you start the computer make sure you have all you connections from e PC to the TV hooked up TV on and RF modulator on, then startup the computer and check the settings and see if it works.
Also, it is possible to have it setup where you have to drag from any edge of the original screen (top, bottom, left or right). Try dragging your stuff to the 2nd screen via the top, bottom, left, and right.
Give that a try and post back.

If your laptop has an S-video out, your video card has got to be able to provide dual display. I have an older Dell laptop, and had to find the proper display driver on the web to enable dual display, though.
When you get to Display/Settings, does it show one monitor, or two, like this?

Hi,
Thanks to all those who replied to try and help me solve my problem with dual desktops.
I have tried all your suggestions and yes I do get a screen like the pic reproduced here, but to no avail. Not only that but in some of my trials the main screen (laptop) froze!!!
However, when I do a re-start I do get about three flash like signals on my TV during startup.
From this I assume that the connection is correct and it's all a question of software conflict. (I think!!)
I have no problems with my other Dell (latitude 600, ATI video card), and so I'm at a loss at what to do next.
I probably have to call a technician to solve my problem.
Thanks again guys.

There is a strong chance it may just be a driver problem.
Twans recomendation of
driverguide.com
has got to be worth a go.

In the past, you had to make sure you had the
latest Nvidia driver. Dont know if that still applies.

And, it goes without saying, use the Fn key (Function Key) with the F Key that has the picture of the TV/Monitor so you can "Toggle" to the correct setting..
Without this step, it's verry difficult.. :need hug:

I had that once, I think it was thinking that the 2nd screen was a computer monitor and not a TV. Check the display settings of the #2 screen and see if that is the case. If it is you will have to change it to a TV.

Hi,
I'm pleased to tell you guys that I got my extended desktop running.
I downloaded a new driver from Nvidia, switched from NSTC to Pal and Presto! everything is running like a song.
I would like to thank you guys one more time!
As I said everything is now working fine. But I would like to add a stand-alone "Next Singer" screen to make my setup complete.
I am using Winamp (5.3) with plugins (works perfectly for me).
Could someone help please?
Best Regards to all and A VERY BIG THANK YOU!
