OK, I have the Behringer PMH 2000 powered mixer and was recording some shows recenetly using the tape out.  But that give me a mix of all the channels.  Want I want to do is use the MAIN output as normal for the house mix, and then use the MONITOR channel for recording the VOICE ONLY.  The only way I can think of how to do this is use the MONITOR PRE AMP 1/4 inch output and have it playing the voice only.

Is the output of the pre-amp output too much for my laptops sound card to handel?  I dont want to fry the laptop.

Alternatly, I could use the MAIN mix for the vocals only and record via the TAPE OUT (I assume the tape out only has the MAIN mix in it), and then use the MONITOR mix for the House mix.

Lonman ya out there?

Dont know your equipment,
but a pre amp output wont damage the laptop.
Plug a speaker into that output.
You wont hear anything.
Its a low mw signal.

With the delta 44 I route 3/4 in out of the 266xl...  The added load is compensated by the output gain on the compressor Then later I import both the vocal and music tack into sonar and mix down..  If you have level problems you cb always use something like a nanocompressor...  It works fine.. You want to record about -6db ...

That's what I woudl do if I wanted to record vocals only.  That way your main mix is run the way you are always used to running it.

That should pose no problem for the line-in on a laptop or standard desktop.  If the levels is too much (or too little), you can adjust the send control on the monitor output and make it work.

You coudl do this, but if you are running a live show, it seems easier to me to use the monitor out, like you described above.

What Meep said!  This way you can adjust the level of which channels you want to the recorder - if only vocals, you turn up the vocal monitor send only & leave the music down.

Yes, guys, it works.  I am at karaoke right now and got it hooked up to the monitor pre amp output.  Good thing is I don't have to worry about selecting left/right or monitor/main.  The pre amp output is before that, so it all works great, and I can run karaoke like I am used to without any problems.

Now to do some recording.

Hey pappy, I'm glad you got it working.

Lonnie, can you show me how to record using my Mackie CFX12 and laptop?  Roxbox has a built-in recording function, but I have not tried it yet.  How shall I hook up the output of the mixer to the laptop?  Should I use the tape out, utility out, or phone out?

With a delta 44 brd I route mic 1 into 3/in,  mic2 into 4/in...  Then with roxbox track vocal only... Mic 1 2 or both.  One could also do it with line in mic1/l mic2/r....

I actually have 3 options using the m-audio control panel  I can track vocal only, Vocal with digital music track or mixer out with FX (1/2 in).

Karyoker, you seem to be quite familiar with Roxbox.  I use a laptop and a Maya 44 USB.  Can I use the outputs from the Maya 44 to record using karaoke tracks and vocals?

Yes.  The Maya 44 has capabilities similar to the Delta 44 and should handle that well.

Rox tracks in stereo to a wav and inroutes what is selected in cntrl panel  audio record in...  I set that for m-audio mixer out then use the m-audio cntrl panel to select wich inputs I want..  Im really not familar with the maya panel but with a quick look-see i think you can do the same... Its just a matter of hooking up for your purpose and setting the cntrl panel...

Here is m-audio panel  Mic1 H/W in1 Mic 2 H/W In 2... For vocal only... (actually the way Im patched the ins on the right are 3/4 in and I use 1/2 in ganged for stereo)

Yea thats right the 1010 has more ins and outs The main advantage is the breakout box contains the dacs and adcs Digital audio is not susceptible to rfi or interfernce like analogue is and its better not to have the converters in the box...

The m-audio isnt top=top of the line but it is adequate for what we do.... Actually with the latest AC 97 audio codecs onboard sound isnt that shabby either...

Ollie is there any way I can get my m-audio fasttrack to record to two tracks? It is so frustrating to get record only on left channel in multitrack of cool edit

The 101 is essentially the Delta 44, twice over (twice as many analog ins and outs) plus a digitial IO and MIDI.

And it rack mounts, too!  I want one!

Well, in order to share, we would have to meet up... perhaps, if the snog ration is high enough I would let you play with it in my rack...
