My son-inlaw decided to have his 50th birthday party in the desert, in January..

(His birthday is actually Dec 23)

Well he does race motorcycles, and this was a ride area, so it was good..

Cold as heck, but much fun..

I didn't get too wrapped up in equipment, so I only took my Toshiba laptop, external HD (500gb) and my Yamaha mixer/amp with speakers..

I guess it was fun because I am still getting phone calls to thank me for showing up..  LOL

Twelve motorhome rigs, around 45 peeps, (All families with many kids) and everyone got to sing kamikasi style.. Gender benders and all.

Sax and Dottie seemed to work fine.. Very smooth..

I could get used to this..  LMAO

Very nice. I hope you had fun. I assume you used the campers to power the equipment? Did you have any problems with amperage of the equipment? I was thinking about getting a generator for those places without power. I was wondering what you liked/disliked about doing it outdoors, besides being cold? Thanks.

The last couple of years the only ones I was enjoying was the private and outdoor all-nighters..  After a few of them and one really has to adapt to all conditions.. One summer my eons were totally covered with swarms of red flying ants..  Ihave used portable power for some of the system the laptop I used a 12 volt reg out of the cig lighter.  I have tun power with 300 feet of power cord...

You adapt to all kinds of crowds and situations Then you realize how trivial 90% of the arguments on here are about certain tidy little rules about how to do things.. Its called succeeding with what you have to work with..

Yes, the system used the motorhome generator.. I believe it's 4 kw or so.. No problems at at..

The gen ran my system, internal lights, and a heater behind me..

Outside, bring plenty of speaker..  LOL I have Yamaha 300 set..

Everyone had fun..

The negative, the equipment needed wiping down.. dust and such..

:hi5:

Eben, I like the new pic!  looks like a cooler, more laid back, you!

as for Karaoke in the desert, do we have anyone from the Mesa Az area?  I may be enjoying some Cubs spring training baseball and would love to partake in a bit of Southwest style karaoke!

We have done shows where we had to improvise, (weather wise).  You  make it work and give it your best.
As for Mesa AZ.  Used to live in Tempe, and I absolutely love Arizona.  I would go back in a heartbeat if my kids would go.  Would really miss the grandkids.  And you guys have the best of both worlds there.  Warm weather all year, and if you want snow and East Coast weather, a two hour drive to Flagstaff or Sedona and you can have that too.  Pine trees, Maple trees, AND snow!

Have you ever been to a place called "Minderbinders"?  It is in Tempe.  I remember it was a really neat place.  Watched a Steelers game there the one year when they won a Super Bowl.

It has been 20 years since I was there.  But it was a fun place back then anyway.

Jerry.   Do you have photographs of this event ?   Sounds like it was fun.  I've never been in an actual desert.  Well,  unless Athens is a desert, not sure.

That's a HORRIBLE excuse Jerry !

You actually expect other people to accept such a response as being a legitimate defense for such poor preparation ?   :order:  :order:  :order:  :order:

In all seriousness though Jerry,  I find that fascinating.  I have never been to, or near a desert.  I don't know what it's like to be an an open field with many miles of flat open space on all sides.  I've never been to a rural area. I haven't driven thru the midwest, or experienced vast flatland areas, never been on a ship.  I can't imagine what it's like to see nothing but horizon on all sides.  btw,  Isn't that where they filmed "The China Lake Murders" ?   LOL
