 Now I'm no "puppy". Just turned 57 years "young". My greatest moment was last Christmas Eve. A friend of mine was doing a special " Christmas Karaoke" show. Now I hadn't sung a song all night...figured I'd just relax, have a few (dozen) beers, and enjoy the show. My KJ friend asked me to sing the last song of the night. I sang the Larry Gatlin version of "O HOLY NIGHT". Well, to my amazement, I got a STANDING "O" from the entire bar, including bartenders, AND  the owners. A couple of girls were actually crying...it was their favorite song....they couldn't believe how well I sang,  etc, etc,. I gotta tell you, I was just glowing and felt so good. ALMOST better than sex.

My biggest thrill so far has been pretty much what Big Jimmy C described.  It only really all came together at once on one occasion, but God, what a thrill.  A rock song that I liked, that the (very large) crowd liked, that I sang well, that I was completely caught up and absorbed in--an almost mystical experience--and I came off to great applause and a slew of high-fives.  It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't sing or perform in some way.

Unfortunately it's more common that the crowd reaction doesn't match my assessment of my own performance.  The ones I think I did well often get very little reaction, while I often get compliments on ones I think were mediocre at best.  It makes me wonder sometimes if the crowd is even paying attention.  Sometimes I think the only thing that matters is the song you pick; if they like it, you're good to go, but if they don't, it doesn't seem to matter how well you do it.

I agree with you Big Jimmy- The ultimate Thrill for the singer is that wild applause after a song and then have someone an hour later walk up to you and say - wow ! you really sing well !

For a KJ - The ultimate thrill is having new singers come in an have a great time - Then on the way out they tell you that your system rocks and you have a great selection and what a great time they had and they will be back next week!

The ultimate thrill for me has happened two different ways. I am not really sure which one was more incredible. They both rate as absolutely wonderful.  The first one was hearing myself on the radio for the first time. I was called and told a country station was playing one of the songs I have recorded.  I tuned in and my heart was pounding out of my chest. I called the station to thank them and they put me on the air for an interview from where I was talking to them.  The next huge thrill for me was being asked to do a special show for the miltary returning from Iraq.  I played for over 3,000 people one night with live tv remotes and radio stations broadcasting the event.  Karaoke is fun, but nothing in the world can beat standing on stage with a live band, plaing to a huge crowd and hearing their applause!--Mike

This happens to you while sitting home alone on the computer typing too ?   Do "they" also light candles and stand up saying "more, we want more"  ?  Great to know I'm not alone.  I knew I couldn't be imagining these things !

Gotta agree there Mike...I had the privilege to be asked to narrate a concert for the NZ Army Band Part of that was singing the opening song. I had been in the audience the year before and it wasnt well supported, so when I had a gig the night before the concert I didnt hold back because I thought again it would be a small event...how wrong I was. The Christchurch Town Hall was a sellout and I barely had a voice...and I had to sing Streisands The way we were, as it was a retrospective look at the history of the Band.
I cant say it was my best ever performance but I didnt get slammed by the critics.
Other highlights have been being Compere at the Marlborough Wine & Food Festival in front of 12000 people...that was the day I met my husband...he was singing I was talking.  LMAO

wow all those things u guys mention happened to me..... THE APPLAUSE for NOT singing that 2nd song i was supposed to,   THE SILENCE, because everyone had left the building,  THE TEARS, how was i to know her foot was there while i was singing?
THE HEART POUNDING....urs would be to if u were dodging beer cans being thrown at you....and my fav.....BEING ASKED TO SING AT A DIVORCE PARTY.....that's never a good thing....karaoke hasn't been very kind to me....

when i sing all u hear are balls crackin'....its a pool hall for god's sake...be nice...

Seriously though.  I can imagine you do get the crowd going wild.  You're a pro ability singer equally as talented as many in the industry singing the same genres.  My singing landed me a contract with Terminex.  You should see how quickly I can clear out a kitchen full or roaches when I open my mouth to sing

I brought the Karaoke system Lonman helped me put together to Michigan with me to work a 2 month refuel outage at a nuclear plant.  I rented a house there and thought I'd just be playing with my system by myself learning to get to know it.  Wrong.  We had a small get together for poker and some girls from the plant said "what's that?"  I told them and every Wednesday we did Karaoke for about 3 hours.  Although we were working 6d a week, 12 hrs a day, everyone wanted to have the K bash at my house every wednesday for the next 6 weeks.  Up to 26 people showed up.  Mind you this was in the MORNING since we worked nights!  Thank god neighbors didn't complain.

After the work was done people came up to me and told me they had the best time ever at an outage, one girl had worked them for 19 years (about 80 outages) and said this one was the best one ever due to me and my system.  People are asking me where I am working next cycle so they can go to the same plant with my system and me.    I felt so good knowing I had made so many people happy and had some decent skillz besides nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, and computer hacking skills.  Sweet way to end 2 months of hard work and hard partying.

still thinking about it.  i don't know how to do it and work the outages since they take up 5-6 months of the year.  suggestions?  i work 3 months in the fall and 3 months in the spring and have the summers and winters off.  I also take a bunch of vacations during the summer and winter.  I wonder if there is a way to just do a few parties every once in a while for a little extra cash.....maybe craigslist.  i don't know what to do.
