Dunno what software you have.
Set windows media recorder, or other, to record.
Play your dvd track.
Good luck.
I have heard some done really well.
Others make no differance.
Depends on the producer...

I was kinda hoping for a slightly more tech answer...I want to preserve any layering that may be present

Sorry Morgan,
Could you please explain what you want to do a bit further.
Also what you mean by layering.
Only ever heard of that with multi tracking.

Just tried LOOSING MY RELIGION in Cool Edit Pro.

Worked quite wll.
Background ghost naturally.
With a bit of EQ it sounds alright.

I have been told there is a possability that there may be multitracking on the dvd..well in fact there probably is as you can turn the words on and off. its possible that the sound track is also multilayered...who knows unless I try, I just need someone to recommend a prog that will rip the audio, I dont want to copy my whole dvd

Sorry, cant help you.
The only DVD I have seen was a Legends disk.
As far as I recall it didnt layer.
Simply had multiple files for each track.

ImToo makes a dvd audio ripper. just downloaded it, will only rip 1min 50 without purchase and cant make up my mind if its worthy of paying for it or whether the devoc on a wave file is going to sound significantly better than the one I did on the 128kbs file. To be honest I cant tell the difference there is still a lot of reverb left on the track. I would have to ask an expert

You could buy a USB audio capture device for around $50 then you just hook up an RCA cable from your DVD audio out to the devices imputs.  Play your DVD and record each song you want as a .wav file then you can burn it to a cd and play in most cd players.

yep I could but as stated before would I not potentially be destroying any layering within the original?

Vicki, I have a DVD to MP3 ripper program that I found earlier.  I think it's freeware too.  I'll send it to your e-mail address, you can give it a try.

Not sure what your getting at.
If you play the dvd in the drive,
any recorder s/w would pick it up anyway.

Morgan, think I read you had Cool Edit.
That is as good a recorder as any...
