Personally I cant comment. Cant sing...

On behalf of Little sis.

When I sing the adrenalin is pumping.
When I come off stage I am so hyper.
I am so tuned in to what people are saying.
One bad comment can destroy me.

OK SS is a comercial venture.

However good you are...
Is it really worth it.

I'm extremely self competitive, and beat myself up mercilessly.  Performing Arts and anything remotely resembling ANYTHING competitive were always hell for me to come down from.  Either I'd stay high, crash, or get knocked on my (@$%&#!).  Not unlike other highs for me.

I always liked Roger Waters.   Two questions.

Do the Scorpions ever get down to the New Zealand area ?

Does Gary Moore ever get to that area ?  or does he pretty much stick within closer proximity to Ireland still ?


Two concerts I'd love to go to.  This likely won't happen.

Aren't Randy Bachman, and Burton Cummings back together too for a tour, or three ?  Is the "Guess Who"  still touring Canada ? or was that just within the past three years and no longer going on. Two amazing musicians.  Bachman is a monster guitarist.  Bachman Turner was never a vehicle for what he's capable of doing in the jazz genre.

Interesting you should mention that because I don't think he sings in a particularly high register.  In fact he might even be a baritone singing throat voice.  He has a lot of gravel, but is he actually a tenor ?   Or a baritone with a throat gravel and a very capable head voice ability ?   He has quite a fast vibrato...

There were only two lead singers I recall that had so much intensity on their vibrato..  Alvin, and Burton   (Alvin sang with the chipmonks  LOL )

But he might..  Although when I think if singers with high tenor voices I think Journey, McCartney, etc.   Whether Cummings has a truly high voice, or he gives off the illusion of this using throat and head voice with Gravel,  I don't know... Interesting.  Chuck would know about this.  HE's the man that told me about throat voice last year.  *THIS* is the main reason I love this site.  I want to learn about singing from singers...Of course I forget that in a NY minute, and yack my voluptuous buttcheeks off instead  :(

Alvin aside the other one who always impressed me was David Clayton Thomas

Burton Cummings, used his voice similarly to Marc Storace from Krokus, a little like Steve Perry too. He would combine his throat voice with his head voice. It's a little like making a muscle in your throat and then singing with it. At least that's how it feels.

As a matter of fact, Krokus did a cover of American Woman once and it gave the whole technique away. I'm not saying that Marc Storace could compare to Burton Cummings, it more like apples and oranges. They have two different intentions for their voices.

Cummings could have been a baritone.

It's worth at least a while.

DCT had a VERY powerful voice.  I saw him (Blood Sweat & Tears) in concerts way back... The power of his voice really was something else, really could reach a crescendo that knocked you in the chest... He was a strong singer !

I don't know about where you are but in my area there are very few places a person can go for Karaoke. I am a pert time KJ and do quite a few private parties and such so I have the gear and could sing at home. My wife on the other hand is not a great fan of Karaoke.... well at least not the kind of music I like to sing... so in order for me to get my fix of Public singing, the joy of singing on stage in front of other people who enjoy Karaoke then I have to go to a Bar... Don't get me wrong, I am not an alcoholic or anything but really not much in the Bar scene. There was a time when I had a bunch of close friends and we would get together for Karaoke but that has also fallen by the wayside. SS has given me the chance to hone some of my singing skills, Hone some of my Mixing skills, has introduced me to Computer recording and has made me quite a few new friends.... Fair weather friends... perhaps but I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I think that this is a healthy place to meet new people and not have to worry about someone trying to scam you or something.

As far as the Critiquing goes... Well we have had listener X recently that has been stirring things up a little.... Well I think that if you want an honest critique then you need to ask for it. When I am subbing a song that I want an honest critique I make sure I write that in the description. Face it... when you go to a Karaoke Bar, no matter how good or bad you are most people will clap and nobody yells out "Dude You Suck!"...   The Critique is SS way of applauding... If you got up at a Karaoke bar and before you started singing and said prior to your sing that you only want people to Clap if they enjoyed it then perhaps you would get an honest applause there as well... Well maybe not.... Anyway... if ya want people to pick your song apart like Listener X then ask them for it otherwise the nice folks here at SS will either not comment at all or they will take the easy nonconfrontational road.

Am I a better person because of SS.... I think so!

I saw The Scorpions in concert once. It was really great! I love they way they rock hard but also have some beautiful intrumental ballads - all sung in a difficult way.

I can sing fairly high as many may have noted from my subs such as U2, Bread, etc. But I can't hardly sing Journey - Steve Perry at all. That guy has this huge falsetto voice that he can really project. At least, that's what I think it is. I think it may have something to do with his really big nose....

Edit - Ok just saw Chucks comments on Steve Perry's voice. Head and throat eh? Maybe somehow I can learn it and pull it off? Dunno.
