those are relatively rare snake, cos they are got killed for the meat. It can grow to 18' long.

There is very little chance of being eaten by those python. Almost 20 yrs in the forest, and I saw only one that is big enough to shallow smal puppy.

So, who are coming over my way?

What type python is native to Malaysia ?   Burmese or Reticulated ?   I don't want to open that link, I'm terrified of snakes, or if they aren't as big as the top two are they Amethystine Pythons ?  Rock Pythons are pretty much Africa.  Indian Pythons aren't among the largest of the Pythonid class snake..  The Boid's are nasty constrictors.   Wouldn't want to get caught in the coil of an Anaconda, powerful constrictors.  No need to go aboad to stumble upon a reptile that large,  Everglades now has Burnese, Retics and god knows what else people let loose  :(

ya see I couldnt sit and have a conversation bout what brand or guage of needle (my phobia) as you seem to be able to bout snakes

I fear both Vicki,  in my case I'm mortified of snakes. although I took desensitization classes (that really didn't help),  I did all I could to get over the fear, studied ALOT about them,  and my fear became quite problematic when I was in my teens managing a tropical fish section of a petshop that had reptiles.... Guess who'd find the missing snake in the warm space behind a tank when cleaning it     I was petrified, and called in sick each time a young reticulated Python pushed his grid off the top of his tank, knocking the cinderblock off and escaping,  those things are pure muscle...  But they have quite a feeding response too making them  nasty pets... Burmese are at least a tad more docile... and I'd like to see ALL those BANNED in the states as Pets...  People have died from their own stupidity.. These aren't house pets.... Yeah, kids think they have drool factor, but when they get big and nobody wants them they have to euthanize them..... The eat and defecate as much as a horse too....  BLECH..... I'll stick to parakeets and dustmites as pets..

Nothing has helped me get over this fear... I can hold one if a person has it.  but as soon as a walk away, and something slithers in front of me on the ground I get a horrible adrenaline rush, and see my life flash in front of me... Something terrifies me about their movement...  Plus they are monsters too.  They're preditors..

Jian,  by the Petronas towers there's the worlds deepest pond.  It's a water filled Tin mine supposedly.  I can't find any info on how deep it is.  Any ideas ?

Both the  Burmese or Reticulated pythons are found here. In the State of Sarawak where I come from, the reticulated are the more common one. they can be big and long. Very handsome animal. The Burmese python are mainland species found in West Malaysia,

The world deepest pond? They are former tin mine. Not sure they really are the world deepest, but those mine can easily accommodate a few dragons.

As much as i would LOVE to meet Jian ..... (he's very cool to chat with on SKYPE!!!) .. i'd prefer we do it in a coffee shop .... or a winery ... where there are NO snakes within 100 miles.  

I'm with you Steve...... DEATHLY fear of snakes.  I FREEZE on the spot ... and no amount of desentization ..... research ...... or anything.... can get me past it!!  

I mean...... THEY SLITHER....... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

You, Jeanne, and Myself should schedule a trip to meet a few on some island where snakes do not yet exist.  I think perhaps the closest location for an international KS gathering where there are no snakes would be ALaska.  Of course some-name will be withheld member- offered to ship a few rat snakes to Alaska when Dave mentioned there weren't snakes.... (no names mentioned)

Just the the other day I was telling CC that there is at least 2 resident snakes behind my house. I have seen it sunning on the fence. One is harmless but the other is fairly poisonous. They are good neighbor; just that my dogs get excited when they meet each other. I have not seen them for a few months now tho.

Jian,  I think I'd last maybe 3 seconds in your area.  Areas of Australia too that are known to have the top 10 most venomous species, and pythons. I wouldn't be very happy there.






It'll be between Cindy and Milo, because *I* am not going to that island knowing now what the objective of this program is  LMAO.  I feel arrythmia's coming on just thinking about it..  LOL.  If I'm walking on a paved road, and see a Garter snake over 50 feet away (in the road ahead of me), I turn around.. I don't even want to see it slither (from that far of a distance).. It might decide to come back when I'm closer  :shock: .  and a problem with snakes,   you can throw sticks and stones towards them trying to get them to move out've the way, and they DON'T..  They freeze instead.  THEN they come back 10 times the size when you're dreaming to haunt you  :shock:

I'll give you an idea just have bad my phobia of these things is.  If I see a stick that's at all curved in a road and flat, I get an adrenaline rush.

That's right Stephen. I saw a program on that the other day. Apparently there was a big one that ate a 9 foot alligator. They also have those Kimodo Dragons down there. Pets that escaped. They get really big too and can run fast. I believe they can eat people - so a tough trend going on down there in Florida.

The Truth Is Out There

Here is a real story that happen to me many years back. I was just about to drive home from my farm; started the truck (we call those car 4wheel-drive) and was just about to move. A snake appear right above the dashboard in front of the steering wheel and ready to strike.

If I was already on the road there might be an incident/accident. I was taking back for a while. Knowing that the snake is not poisonous I just give it a nice slap and it slide away thru the open window.

After that incident I never leave my car window down when I am parked.

I too tried desensitisation and it didnt work for me either..the really queer thing is I can give injections or take blood but the moment it goes under my skin I covulse and lose all control even when given tranquilisers orally first

About 1/2 year ago a 13 foot burmese python ate a 6 foot alligator.  The alligator's clawing in the python split the python.  YES,  I studied the photo's.  I have quite a decent knowledge of herpetology.  I've made this fear into something beneficial .
Interesting side-note.  If I weren't so afraid of these monsters there's VERY good money in that area of zoology/ veterinarian med.  There are very few Herpetologists in the eastern part of the country..  Interesting fact,  it's a VERY tough area to get into too... Getting into vet school would've been much tougher for me than getting into med school when I did. It *at least was* a HIGHLY competitive area of study.  Probably easier to become a brain surgeon than an Iguana doc..  Now of that aint scary, don't know what is
