Do you, as a singer like KJs that waste singing time with filler music, dance music, games or dead air?

Bigdog, I won't answer the poll since you asked for singers only, but I do like the idea of this poll, and look forward to seeing the results.

Well, I am a singer only... never been a KJ.
I voted NO... I have walked out of a karaoke bar, and never went back because of filler dance music being played in between EVERY song.
Gotta agree with ya. Even though you got a heck of a way of saying things... I do agree with you that filler music is stupid at karaoke venues. I don't care what the reason for people using it... most KJ's I've seen get along fine without it, it's not neccesary IMHO.

If there are plenty of singers around at the time I say don't spend time with dance music or excessive KJ babble. As far as dead air is concerned, I actually do prefer a little between songs though. I like having a couple of minutes to talk to friends a bit without having to shout over the music.

If you removed the term "waste", and used a more impartial term, it MIGHT be easier for many to answer this "yes". LMAO

If you want to sing and nobody can sing because of some type of usless interruption, it's a waste.....

Austin, Tx. Nope. I don't like it. When I am there to sing it can make the rotation much longer. I can deal with a little as singers are walking up that quickly ends, but as someone else stated it's also nice to have a moment or two of dead air that are quieter so that you can get a word out to your friends.
I'll also add I know Jeffieoke doesn't like it. In fact it has been known to make him insane and change into a werewolf on the spot as he has a little talk with the KJ host. "WoooOooooo" :banghead: :madgo: :reddevil: Bark at the moon...

As a singer (Florida), generally speaking, I prefer it not be used, At times, though, I wish it was. For example, I've come into a place 10 minutes after the show starts and found that there are 3 singers plus me. Each singer gets to do two songs. That takes up about twenty minutes between each singer's turn in the rotation.
Therefore, upon arriving I have ten minutes to order my food, pick out my songs and get ready to sing. I'd rather, under those circumstancesw, that rotation be slowed down a bit.

As a singer I do not like fill in music between songs because I like a short pause in between songs (just long enough for the next singer to arrive at the stage) as I don't like the constant noise without some short breaks.
I don't mind maybe 2 dance songs placed somewhere during the evening to appease the non-singers. That's like 8 minutes out of 4-5 hour show and that's no big deal to me in fact sometimes it can really energize a crowd.
I also do not like KJ's that talk too much during their show. This drives me crazy...talk about a time waster.
Given the way you phrased your question I did not vote as it feel I could only produce the answer you were looking for.

I never used to use filler music because, as a singer, I didn't feel it was needed. However, now that smoking in the venue has been banned here in NJ, I play a filler song between the finish and start of a new rotation so smokers can go light up without the worry of missing a turn or one of the singers that they like.

I'd venture to opine that regardless, keeping the customer entertained should be foremost and in any way, shape or form.

I don't mind a couple of filler songs so that the KJ can take a smoke break. Last year he used way too much filler music and totally lost the momentum going on with the crowd. This year he puts up one singer after another and attendance is growing each week...last year people were leaving.

IMO, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS POLL, AS THERE IS WITH MANY POLLS, BECAUSE OF HOW THE QUESTION WAS CONSTRUCTED.
BD wanted to prove himself/herself right, when others have differing opinions. SO... he constructed his question to include the phrase waste singing time. That phrase will consciously or unconsciously effect most of us. Who among us want our time wasted in general? And, specifically, if I go somewhere to sing I don't want people wasting my singing time.
For those who have already responded to this poll, would you have answered differently considering the following factors?
Sometimes, non-stop karaoke is not practical or possible. Many a venue I go to here in Florida have lingerie shows that go on simultaneously with and regardless of the other entertainment being offered. Those lingerie shows sell raffle tickets for the displayed merchandise. If nothing else, the KJ is expected to stop the show in order for the winning ticket to be announced. Sometimes the KJ is responsible for selecting the ticket and locating the winner. And if the winner has left, another ticket must be drawn. While I hate these shows, other people love em (that's why they exist).
THE POLL SHOULD HAVE, IMO, INCLUDED SEVERAL QUESTIONS. Perhaps the following would make more sense and provide a more meaningful response:
In an environment in which there are plenty of participants, from the start to the finish of a Karaoke show, and aside from any outside influences controlled by the owner:
(a) should the KJ sing in the rotation?
(b) should new people be put in towards the "top" of the rotation so soon as they arrive?
(c) should filler music be excluded from the show, including periods during which the show has been delayed by a slow-moving singer, or a problem getting the next song queued up (which can happen for anyone of a multitude of reasons)?
(d) should the KJ sing a song that someone in the audience requested?
(e) should the KJ respond to requests from the audience for specific music, such as the Electric Slide?

It is sort of a one sided question and I have to say I find it very two-faced; (if I may use that word) to expect people to say where they are from when the "poster" refuses to do the same.

OH, AND I ALMOST FORGOT OTHER COMMON EVENTS THAT CAN INTERRUPT NON-STOP KARAOKE.
What about the occasions when people are celebrating a birthday or an anniversary at a karaoke show and their friends want the KJ to stop and acknowledge the event?
