The clock is running....
Can any KJ honestly tell me they are not wasting singing time???????
Anything but karaoke music is wasting it. So tell me who is not wasting valuable singing time????
I want all the dedicated karaoke singers to pay close attention now.....
Support the ones that don't waste your singing time. Here's the list.....
While we wait....
Please let me apologize to you for the "KJs" that do waste your singing time. Please know that there are dedicated KJs that are concerned for the survival of karaoke and want it to be a lasting quality form of entertainment.....not a folly full of games and dance sets.
If you support me, you should be joining in this thread and voicing your support of KJs that play karaoke music only. Karaoke can not survive when it is being trashed up with non karaoke distractions. It will wither and die. The quality of the "KJs" will drop. Good karaoke will get harder to find. Bar owners will find out they can pay a DJ to do the same thing they are paying the KJ to do.
It's not too late to help save karaoke as it was intended to be. A night of singing.
Upon careful inspection, you will see that I called nobody any names. (As I have been) I told no one that my way was the only way. I merely stated some facts for the singers to evaluate their own KJ. If you fell into some category and took it personally it must fit your KJing style. I made no personal attacks. Again, it's just the facts in black and white.
Singers will ultimately decide if they want to attend karaoke shows that do or do not waste their singing time. :worship: :worship:
To all of my loyal singers...thank you and I love   :worship: you all... :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

This is the ONLY thing you insinuate! Anything BUT what you preach sucks, nothing else could POSSIBLY be successful! Must be pretty sad to have such a closed mind

Tell me then how a KJ that plays games and dance sets helps karaoke????
I'm not talking about how you think it helps/hurts the KJ.
How does it help karaoke????

Karaoke as we know it is in trouble ....
Why does everyone think that this is a non issue?
Singers will wake up whenever it's too late.
Like watching a species become extinct and then saying we better do something.....too late now. :O Just cover them with dirt.
Nothing extinct will be coming back.
When karaoke dies you can tune in to re-runs of American Idol. Same mentality.......Simon will save you..

PCornell @ Wed Jan 24, 2007 4:29 pm wrote: Bigdog @ Wed 24 Jan, 2007 wrote: If you run your show and play filler music you should be apologizing to your loyal singers.
This should be said to your first 5 early, loyal singers, every night.
It should sound something like this:
Since I run an OK show, but I do not have the talent required to run a continuos, non stop karaoke show, I will be playing filler music between singers. This filler music will take up at least a 1/2 hours worth of singing time. This means that you 5 early, loyal singers (that came early to support my show and to be able to sing more) will sing one song less, than you expected. Sorry for any inconvenience. But, it's my talent level.
Now If you play dance music too, you will have to include the next 10-15 singers and this is what you should be saying to them every night:
Since I run an OK show, but I lack the singing/general talent required to entertain all of the people in attendance with just karaoke music, I will be playing dance music on "karaoke" night to make the non singers happy. These dance sets will take up at least 1 hour of singing time. So you my 10-15 early loyal singers, can expect to sing one less song each. I know you came early to sing more, but I have to cater to the non singers too. The non singers forced me into this.
These apologies will make you look like a standup person with some integrity and by admitting your faults, they may feel compassion for you and continue to attend your show.... out of pity. You're an f'ing a$$h*le BD..........not much more to say than that.
I agree with PCCORNELL!!!

When I run my show (which I'm running off to here right now) the bar I work for has us do drink tickets for the singers. So, while the next singer is coming up, I'll start a song as filler music right after their song is done, and while the next singer is coming up, and while they're pulling their drink ticket. I rush them along if they're just screwing around to speed the show up.
But, I believe I have a good excuse because of the drink tickets. Honestly, the drink ticket usually only takes about 30 seconds or so. It depends on if the singer is being cooperative. Like I said, if they're screwing around, I'll hurry them along, but the crowd usually diggs the banter because we do to get the crowd excited for the opportunity for a discounted drink.

OMG, drink tickets. That is not pure KJing/Karaoke, you must bribe people with discounts on drinks to get them to sing. Welcome to my world of being a HACK kj!!!!!!

I think I am a serious karaoke singer. We have a small but decent set-up at home with a decent number of songs. I practice in he car, at home, at work (well, not very often; they already think I am crazy). I download songs to my iPod that I want to learn. I do vocal and breathing exercises. Not constantly, mind you; I do have a life besides karaoke, but still all this is a part of my life.
I don't mind filler music. I like some fun and games. The show I visited in Honolulu was as close to BD's as I have seen in that there was no filler music, no pausing, no interaction. All-in-all I prefer even one of the hacks that has a show here locally. It is more relaxing. BD I truly would love to visit one of your shows because I do not think you would be as creepy as the guy in Hawaii, but I am worried that I would feel very unwelcome as a newbie in your venue.
If I am in the mood for hardcore singing I stay home or go on a weeknight to a club I know is not very busy.

I'm a creep, I'm a wierdo.... But I'm also the World's Best KJ.... That was preceded with filler music..... Hey... I could get use to this hack thing. Less work just play dance music and set the cruise control...WOOO HOOO.....No running microphones through the bar, no worry about keeping the karaoke music continuous and non stop...No worry about mixing my tops to sound good, like they do when you have a whole system. Sign me up for a pay cut.... LMAO LMAO
When you sing at home do you play filler music???? How about some dance sets while you practice singing...

Does anyone off the forum ever go to your shows BD? Perhaps you should make your location known. I bet a bunch of people would enjoy it. All hype aside, I'm sure you run a good show.

OK BD.....since you started this topi as a direct shot at me for a posting in another thread, I have another question for you.
How do you make announcements? Like "Next up is Mark, give him a hand!" or "Don't forget to take care of the batenders as they have been taking care of you tonight." or "This is BD of BD karaoke and we are here every ____ night and hope to see you next weeek too..."
If there is NO dead air, and NO filler music between singers, where do you fit that in?
OR, do you believe that besides not needing a stage, singers don't need introductions, encouragement, and the staff needs no help?
Help me to understand, because in my world, where the laws of physics apply, 2 objects cannot occuppy the same space at the same time. So either you talk over the singers or don't acknowledge them...
(And I won't even ask how you cue up The Gambler which has no intro from one singer to the next....)

I'm one of three people that I know of on this forum that have been to BD (Mark's) shows. Mark runs his shows for the singers, which is good if you are a singer, but maybe at the expense of the others that are there. When I go to one of his shows (which I haven't been to one lately), I know that he is going to do everything he can to get as many songs sung as possible. So he will run around the bar getting mics into the next singer's hands so he can start the next song quickly. So I believe Mark has built his reputation as a KJ that will attract people that want to sing. The drawback at times is that unless the singers are decent, or at least entertaining, the non-singers have little else be entertained with. I've seen times early in the night there might be only a couple singers and Mark. This is can be a great thing for the couple of singers, since they get to sing a lot more, but it can be bad for the rest of crowd if the singers aren't very good. And as the case is in many places that have karaoke, the regulars tend to sing the same few songs every week, which can make the shows boring after a while, hearing the same singers sing the same few songs week in and week out (and can make you crazy at times when some of the regulars sing the same songs badly every week). There isn't much dancing at Mark's shows, but there is a lot of singing. But it is karaoke after all, so Mark concentrates his energy on the singers and the singers only. A lot of you want to entertain the entire crowd using karaoke as the primary tool, but not the only one. So if you're out this way and like to sing, Mark's shows are worth going to. bye pghpat

This is the last time ..
When I meet a man in real life In stand firmly shake his hand and look him in the eyes.
When I meet a lady I stand proud, grasp her hand gently in a folded way look her in the eyes and let down the walls and let her see me as a gentleman and as a man...
I have taken many like BD into the service and made men out of them..I do not like phonies or liars and I eat them for breakfast..I am partially pyshic and I am a wicca. So BD doesnt snow me like he oe she does everybody else..
Also as a vet in hospitals I have recieved counsel and have given counsel to mant vets.. So in a nutshell I can enter BD's mind even on thje net..
I have exposed him in tother posts as to what he really is ..
When somebody relates in 3rd party in public and cannot respond directly to anybody (have you ever seen BD use quotes?) then then there is indications of multtple personality disorder. We wont even discuss meglomania because I am not sure it even applies in this case it has evolved into more seriuos complications..
I am onvinced that BD is a shutin and trying to reach out to the real world and a forum is hardly the medium to do so...
So this response is in a general 3rd party degree and all comments are intended to be healing in nature and with understanding and temperance and compassion which sems to be lacking here...
So in the words of a Shepherd BD While you rille me to no end and if I met you in real life I would prob kick ur as I LOVE YOU

If he really did, he would make his location known and be proud of it.
I just visited Lonman's show tonight, and he runs a truly awesome show. Great sound, nice stage, best foldback/monitor I have heard in quite a while, and a great crowd.
Oh, and no dead air or false starts, either.
I knew he would run an excellent show. Usually I worry about whether the KJ will get the key change right (because I usually go down one or two steps for most songs) and in this case I just assumed it would be done right. Of course it was.
I would visit Mr. Dog's show too, eventually, as I travel a lot. Were I to know where it was, that is....
