Or why there are no famous MIDI only musicians out there?

There actually are famous MIDI-only musicians out there. I think Trent Reznor (a.k.a. Nine Inch Nails) is the most famous. He produces his music from 100% sampling (besides the vocals, of course). He has made a FORTUNE creating synthesized music by himself in his home studio.

HOWEVER, when it comes to recording his albums AND performing live, he has a touring/studio band that come in to play the drums, bass guitar, guitars, etc., because, again, it JUST SOUNDS BETTER!!!

Or could it be because a one man band can't get the same for a show a band can?

True enough a MIDI file played on a computer sounds like crap.

But use the computer and a program like cubase to send a midi file to a good synthesizer though a Midi cable, and there is a world of difference in the sound.
If you are a music purist, you will never hear the same sound.

I had no idea there even was such a thing as a midi sampler.  This is something that came out after I stopped using midi.  What I do know is that I want one if I can get a sample library somewhere.  I have many applications for it.  Basically, when people think of midi they (like me) were thinking sound modules.  Sound modules, even the good ones are only OK, but samples... that would be something!  I have found this a very enlightening thread... and it introduced the Jerk-O-Meter.  What more could you want?

Eben, you appear to have a closed mind.
You are outspoken which is good for the forum.
Unfortunatly you pass misleading information.
Exweedfarmer probably had a similar knowledge
about midi that you did.
Although a little condeming, he asked questions,
and with pointers did his research.
Since you know it all you have no need to research.
It would cost you nothing to admit you are not the oracle.
With karake you may have a vast impressive knowledge.
I dont question that. I question your incorrect statements.
Not only that, I am offended that you would misslead me.
