Well,  I'm feeling that those of us that are intense, and take the craft VERY seriously whether we direct it towards anyone in the "JFF" (casual) group or not, might be upsetting some of you.  Is this an incorrect feeling on my part ?  (Feelings on this topic aren't right or wrong, they just are.  This is to be accepted, How others feel regarding this perhaps SHOULD NOT be challenged for this reason.   It is a good thing to know IMO.  Can intensity AND light fun exist side-by-side in the Showcase ? Please state your feelings, not "ideally" how things should be.

TAWK amongst yawselfs !  Please !  Inquiring yenta's want to know !   :allears:

(how many words besides Ambience can be spelled two ways, Ambience OR Ambiance ?  Please TAWK.  I'm all ears)

Welcome to K-YAK Radio, Charmin's all Tawk station.. All uninterrupted BS, all the time :drunk:

Ahem, go read my response in the OTHER thread Steven, Lmao... I can't/wont/prolly shouldn't type that all again.

I hope you're not taking this off of my initial statement over yonder. I don't think ya are, but I hope not.

To condense what I said... over yonder...

You're right. It does appear that those who take it very intensely get boo'd by the majority of SS. It is a fact, but it does NOT make it okay:)

People need to learn it is not "my way or the highway" around here. (unless it's P.hill speaking, Lmao)  People need to do what they like to do here, and butt out of stuff that is NOT what they like to participate in. Because, hello, we are not all alike, and we are NOT all here for the same things. Woolah, problemo solved.

LOL

Ni'night... Must- - - get- - - sleep.

Acually Steven, I think the word "intense" is a bit strong; I'd probably avoid putting labels on performers who are interested in perfecting what they do (to me in this context "intense" would describe a process--such as working intensely to achieve a goal, but does not describe them as a person entirely).  Regarding this whole critique issue, again, it depends on the person it is being addressed to.  I've seen many times where someone has asked for a critique, received maybe ONE constructive piece of advice out of maybe 15 comments and they go haywire.  Then again, there are many singers here asking for critiques who take any advice given courteously and with acceptance.  If the critique is given respectfully it should be taken as it is intended.  It's probably a 50/50 thing on SS.

Last summer we had a musical arbiter who created a calamitous fuss--this character WAS very ham-handed and insulting and I could see why people reacted like they did (I was among them too! People were really pig-biting made with this character).  THAT is the type of thing that is difficult to control; we WILL get people from out of the blue that have watched "IA" too many times and think what they see on that show is how to critique singers, regardless of their level of ability. Any of us that have performed at a recital know that's not how it's done in the real world!

Take care....

MJK,  I'm using "intense" generically for general sake of understanding.  The complaints I've heard over past years often alludes to seriousness as being "too intense" as opposed to "relaxed and fun".  While *I* know what intense by definition is and is not, some of us HAVE been labeled as being "too intense in a fun venue" regardless of what the process should be termed, intense is what we are often accused of being. It's become an accusation that's been directed towards those wishing to perfect what they do.  I see no point in attempting to convince many in SS about "grey" areas when too many can't even figure out what the term "Critique" means.  Many think "Critique" means area you submit to that just has a higher percentage of know-it-alls trying to tell you stuff you never elicited. For this reason,  I'm not going to get into semantics for the purpose of this topic  LMAO

My concern is that Critiquing won't work in SS.   That is all I'm trying to confirm.  People might not openly admit to it, but few seem to like seeing it even in comment boxes of those requesting it

I understand your use of the word now Steven in that context.  I'm prone to agree with you: for a variety of reasons, all covered at length, it does seem for all intents and purposes, soliciting critiques in a group setting (SS) may not be of much value. I would say however, that if you post in the "C" slot and get 12 comments and only one of them is contrary to the rest, THAT's the one to pay more attention too!

The best route is to find someone you think has the ability to critique you and have them do it personally.  This works best on a number of counts where asking one in a public setting seemingly fail.

I agree with you regarding "learning and improving".  Music is a first language for me and I'm here because there are very talented singers here.  That's the only reason,  I don't need the internet for Karaoke, that's something else I can do here and now (in real)...But to be friends with this many talented musicians is VERY unlikely to happen in real-life. I didn't come here because of Karaoke at all, I was impressed by the talent on this site.   I came to converse with a site of "singers".  Karaoke to me is just a session training tool.   So like yourself,  Music is a process of ALWAYS learning for me. I take music seriously.  I don't call it intense either,  I don't judge it, I take it seriously, and I wouldn't have it any other way !   HOWEVER, as a result it appears some feel alienated by those of us interacting on a different level.

Steven, if you get played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie version of this, I'm asking for George Clooney plus I want the score done by Danny Elfman.

Excellent !   As long as you make it original like that and put in a few twists stating in the description "based on a factual event"; Categorize this as ~

HORROR

"The Critique"*

Quote:
NY times states   "Perhaps the most appalling film of the new Millennium"

"This is the side of human nature 'they' do not wish for you to see"
                 -Philadelphia Tribune-

Chicago Sun-Times     "Although this CAN happen, most forget these situations can transpire among civil adults in western cultures. Amazing true to life depiction of the -darkside- of the performing art realm"

"I anticipated being able to watch the whole movie.  I could not. It's a sad state of affairs when a movie can be made with such disgusting content"                      -- Roger Ebert

*You won't sleep for weeks.  Make sure you enter the theatre with an empty stomach. Those with weak hearts, seizure disorders, anxiety disorders, and conditions that might compromise health agree to deliberately put themselves at risk upon entering this theatre.

** coming soon to a theatre near you in the West coast.

I think director William Castle might have covered this same cinematic territory in one of his spookfests, but I'll do some research just to be safe!

lol that's funny - you two took this topic completely off topic and I was no where around this time LOL.. usually I'm blamed in other parts of Netland for ripping things off topic lol

carry on.. I'm out to go get popcorn for this movie...

One question tho before I go.. do you think maybe I could sing one of the songs from the soundtrack or something? hmm...  maybe a redo of Little Shop of Horrors or something? plzzzzzzzzzzzz... lol you decide if it's a JFF or C sub lol

Foxe, there are two songs from the score, "Showcase Shake" and "The Critique Pique Polka" that you might want to sing for the soundtrack CD.   I think both are in public domain ALREADY so no royalties need be paid!

MJK is already casting this without me

This is the part I don't like about showbiz..   When you have no say, and part of the multi-million dollar movie you co-direct  :(

Steven, our backing from DeLaurentis Roma fell through...I'm shopping this over to the independents now...sent scripts to John Carpenter and Wes Craven; no answer so far.  By the way, the script need some punching up in the romance angle...any ideas?

Romance ?

For that you'd need the heart-throbs.

Michael J. Pollard and Kathy Bates

Interesting combo, but perhaps TOO much audience identification..remember, the scope of this picture includes alienating the audience as part of the dramatic sweep of the thing....
