(I've backed vocalists in the R&B genre since and before these songs came out. Either band setting, or keyboards.. This is one area of my experience, I've been with some very good R&B bands) and I really really miss it ! I LOVE THIS stuff ! If anybody wants private in depth critique on R&B, and can handle true honesty. In THIS genre, It would be my pleasure to take the time to listen all the times it takes, and offer an educated opinion I might have. BUT just opinion

I have to admit, FEMALE vocals for me, although I've worked with many in R&B are MUCH tougher for my ear to Critique than male vocals.. I don't know why... IN fact I'm thinking about this now for the first time... I think perhaps because female timbre and style has taken SO many turns over the course of the decades in the R&B genre.
Anyway, I enjoyed Crooners rendition of "LALA means" more than Thom Bell (Delfonics) because although appropriate for the time, Bell had a bit too much raunch in his voice for my tastes... I like Crooners smoother rendition. He didn't even change keys on it... He was able to hammer it out in the original key
