You hack, you!  Guess that's why you had to limit your rotation to one song per singer?

Shame on you.  Professional singers want to sing two songs at a time.  It's not worth their effort to show up at a hack's gig and only get to do one song. tsk tsk tsk

And get rid of those flakes and wannabes that cause you to leave your PURE karaoke format

Quality equipment and a quality run show brings in the talent.    Playing dance music would KILL my crowds.     My quality has always paid me back with quality singers.   I do not get the screaming drunks.  They go to the hack shows.    Keep pounding the nails.   Karaoke will be dead in your area soon, too.   The dance music trend that killed the left coast karaoke scene will keep moving east.    Like all the California trends.   They take a while to get here.

When karaoke totally dies in my area, (killed by hacks) there will be one.... standing over the dead rotting corpses.   Guess who that will be?   :worship:

The area hacks are already starting the slow progression toward death.     I see it coming.   The weak will die.     Dance song by dance song, till there are no more karaoke singers to be found, except at the dog show.

DJs will inherit the "karaoke" scene.     They will dominate once again.

Remember the definition of "karaoke."    Empty orchestra.    Meaning no words.     TV screens show you the words.    It says nothing about dance music.  :O

Time wasting, (filler music, by your own count) songs that singers could be singing is not helping them to want to attend.    They see it as it is, singing time wasted.     Can't disguise it.   Can't justify it by calling it "adjusting to the crowd."

Karaoke by itself is/was the best entertainment thing going.   It could stand by itself.  It didn't need dance music to "help" it along.     Karaoke music companies don't manufacture dance music, they make karaoke music.    Karaoke singers don't sing to dance music they sing to karaoke music.     To me karaoke did and always will mean just one thing.    KARAOKE, period.    Not interrupted with anything else, ever.       Nothing to waste singing time.      But keeping all in attendance professionally entertained.

Where the heck do you get dance music or dance sets from my statement? I prefer music over dead air. What a concept.

Keep blowing out of proportion statements.....

I bet you are also one of the people that objected to a mandatory seat belt law believing that if the government could tell us what to do in our car, the next step was the third reich.....

Besides, BD said he DON'T have a dance floor in his club, there would be absolutely no point in him playing a dance song, so yeah I can see how dance music could kill your karaoke crowd.

BD,  While I understand what you stated in terms of "Karaoke singers don't sing to dance music they sing to Karaoke music",  I think we both know that in an Older group a KJ singing R&B or a song from Stylistics, or Freddie Jackson (You are my lady) is GOING to get a group of couples up dancing, AND THAT is a good thing !  But yes, by definition Karaoke means "backup accopaniment", and the singer I suppose of course does sing to that.  SLow ballads, love ballads done VERY well are a great dance form of music for the adult crowd who loves R&B..  Sunday nights at the local place (before it shut down- and NOT from bad Karaoke,  district zoning gave them hell) was veteran R&B night,  Great Singing, Great Karaoke, and ALOT of dancing to quality music, because great music makes a person want to get up and dance...

(pardon the horrid typos, omitted words, and sloppy phrasing, Had to edit this, I'm rushing)

You mean you're not suppose to let dancing occur during a show.  Damn we've been doing it wrong all this time.  Guess it's time to tell people they can't dance while a singer is singing.

Actually that's another license that clubs need if they allow dancing!  I worked a club that got busted for allowing patrons to dance with no proper area or license for dancing.  After that, we had to tell people to sit down if they were dancing until they got an area for it.  They eventually did & paid their license, but dropped karaoke soon after as the new owners took over & put in a duet 'live music'.
This was also the same club that had to stop karaoke for 2 nights until they paid their publisher licensing fees - this was 1994.

Lonnie, this is interesting!  I've never heard of a place having to have a specific license before any kind of dancing could occur. What agency did the club have to pay the license fee to, the state's liquor control commission? I've seen lots of places that don't have a real designated dance floor, but a few people will spontaneously get up and dance in whatever extra spare area they can find.

It's a cabaret license.  I couldn't find the requirements for WA, but here is a link for Denver, CO.

Yep, there it is!  I've heard of a cabaret license before, but never knew what it involved.

"Liquor Licensing
Cabarets

Any establishment licensed to sell alcohol which offers or provides entertainment or dancing for its guests is required to obtain a cabaret license from the Department of Excise and Licenses except those specifically exempted by ordinance. The issuance and regulation of cabaret licenses is governed by Denver Revised Municipal Code Sections 6-31 through 6-64."

Yep,  Here in CT that same license allowed the dance floor, made sure safety regs were up to snuff, and enabled the extra hour of operation !  While most areas don't forbid dancing, if you wanted to have a dance floor, lighting, and open area setup specifically FOR people dancing, the license differed from standard restaurant/Bar licenses. It was an add-on. Some of the zoning probs that owners ran, and I suppose still do (run) into setting up this type of "dance club" is neighbors, zoning, these are the generally louder noisier places... Especially in the 1970's to early 80's..  These clubs are sparse in the state now.  and that's ashame..

Yep, the era of the really big dance clubs of the 70's and early '80's is over here in Oregon too.  It's a shame.  There was much more fun and energy going on at those places.  Now we just have a lot of small 'hole in the walls'. :(

Once again Timber has nothing intellegent to say. :O

I said, singers can not sing during dance music, but dancers can dance during a karaoke song.

I never said that nobody should dance at karaoke.   They just need to do it during the continuous, non stop karaoke songs.

There is no need to waste singing time with dance music.     Unless your dance crowd is so stupid, they can't dance to live singers.    They tripping over the words on the screen?

Ironically, I just learned this week that FL has a cabaret license (for dance floors).

There just seems to be no end to the legalities that complicate karaoke!
