Has anyone ever used or experienced the Galaxy personal monitors http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=601401 or similar products. I am thinking of incorporating this package into my show with the master as my personal monitor(as I normally have to setup beside the performing area) and the slaves for the singers. Positioning these to the side, pointed at the singers,on mic stands would seem to solve the monitor/space issue. Any experienced comments or comparable suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They actually pack a little punch & will fill the void of a missing monitor.

as a singer, sometimes I prefer a stage if I'm feeling especailly brave. but a place without a stage (most places in NYC don't have stages I feel, there's never enough room) can be better for the shyer singer, who isn't as comfortable in the spotlight. However, being on stage you get a certain RUSH, which is what karaoke's all about, ain't it?

I've also been to a bar in the East Village NYC that has an amazing song list but no stage or even an area to stand- everyone just sits at the bar counter, and you get handed a cordless mic and sing from the bar. Bizarre, but it works if you're really lazy that night.

I have been doing karaoke the "lazy' way for 14 years.    I never use a stage.   It lets me run a continuous, non stop karaoke show.   The next singer always has a microphone in hand.   Because I walk over and give it to them.    Back-to-back music from begininng to end.   No filler music or dance music.    Makes my a "leader" of quality shows in my area.  :O  :worship:

I also have been doing Karaoke the lazy way for the last three years, No stage, No Monitor, and I use a computer for both my Karaoke and Music. I remember when I first got into KJing, flipping Cd's was the rush for me especially doing shows with a thirty plus person rotation. But back to the subject, having a stage at the show gives some of your singers that "I'm a rock star" mentality they seem to get into it more, but most new singers won't get up there without encouragement or a helping hand from you or a friend. Personally when I sing I don't like to be up on stage I would rather be standing in front of a group of people trying to get others to sing with me. Thats my 1/2 cent...

I usually strive to have a similar mix--including effects coming form the monitors and the mains.  Granted, sometimes I will put more effect or less in the monitor, as needed, to please whoever is singing.  I have had customers tell me to "crank up the echo" which would sound like crap, so I crank it in the monitor, and still have a pleasant mix coming out the mains.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I used to have one regular who preferred NO effects.  Turn the effects off to the monitor, add a tiny bit to the mains, and voila--happy customer and good mix for the crowd.

You can't please all of the people all of the time, but having the proper equipment to be flexible, sure helps!

Exactly the reason for monitors - an individual mix.  Some don't want to hear their voice at all, some don't want much music, some may want effects, some no.  You can do this with a monitor without screwing up the main mix.
