And if a strong group of 10 regs concurs when this happens  to respond to THESE two

"Take it elsewhere you two.  You are making this place uncomfortable to those that CAN and do get along".

Why is that so hard ?  I don't understand ?

It means you moderate yourselves, AND one-another for the overall good of the site !

What happens is THOSE complaining often instead take sides fueling the situation... Instead make a pact to end it !

There will be people accusing that group of ten of having or following pack mentality.

I am learning a great deal from those that say to make no changes. These are tools that I will be able to apply in other places as well.

AND.... guess what.  As crass is this sounds SOMETIMES it's true !   In ANY performing art

1)  You CAN NOT control who's in your audience
2)   People at times DO BOO you
3)   It's a growth process that makes or breaks MANY of us..  But IT IS...
It's a part of performing, and to be quite honest I HAVE received those
comments by friends and bandmates when I sucked...THEY WERE RIGHT..
I SHOULD NOT have performed sounding "like that"... Sometimes there's
also an element of truth EVEN in what our enemies state !

When you submit to SS,  you submit for the WHOLE WORLD to hear you.. Not all view your performance as "just you singing Karaoke and having fun".  MOST believe it or not JUDGE YOU whether they state their opinion or not. Some reality trickles into SS, and I know it's tough to take but hey... Sometimes that above comment, is what friends are saying behind your backs !

(more food for thought)

What I do when I am up for critique is tell myself beforeheand that it WILL hurt.

Yes I see your point Steven. But all too often the two people who are feuding really don't care what anybody else thinks.  They are determined to fight it out till the end. And only the mods have any control at all over when that end might be (i.e. the thread gets pulled).

Yes Chuck,  If a person subs for critique,  there's a mindset that must acoompany.
It's TOUGH !  (humbling)

But currently SS has defined it's own concept of "C", and for those that conform, it works I suppose (real or not)...  I think forming an offshoot of Singers Forum for the SERIOUS singers is an option (as I've stated).. Invite club

I like that idea.

Now that I think about it, if it weren't for bootcamp I might not be able to handle a critique at all.

Understood Don.  In THIS case it's tough.  Such a situation I suppose would need to be reported if such individuals show blatant disrespect for others..  In some cases however,  it's not a bad start.  MIght turn out to be 6 out've hundreds that have the problem rather than 26.

ADDED IN:

Try to view this overall, and not personally.  Considering there's no such thing as the "Utopic" forum (when there are this many members).  What percentage would you say or having a tough time with Singer's Showcase ?  Out've that percentage HOW MANY are suffering self-inflicted issues that they are proojecting onto a site that might not be flawed ?   Sort've like >>

"The world needs to improve,  I don't have the attitude problem"..
Now in some cases these conditions aren't mutually exclusive.. But realistically Don
WHAT percentage is having fun in SS while some here are trying to figure out a means of fixing a system that only relatively few find broken ?

That would be the best way to do it.

I've sent messages to admin in the past that were never answered. I can't be sure that they would ever respond. So I'll just sit in the corner and spin my dreidel.

This is a dup of sorts. Not sure what happened here?  LOL

But Steven, the kind of comment that we quoted here is most likely based on a serious 'I don't like you and you don't like me' as a person foundation.  Any objective 'based in music theory' type comment seems to be secondary.

This is all true Steven.  It's kind of like reading the 'product review' comments on the Circuit City website or some place similar.  The remarks you read are often mainly by people who are dissatisfied.

I understand Don..  But if somebody hates Mick Jagger, He might have to take a few eggs to his lips before security catches on that there's a groupy that obviously has it in for him..  We CAN'T control who's in our audience.  Some hate performers and follow them to harass them too !   I've seen this happen.  How many times have WE wished (the worst scenerio and toughest of ALL to ignore) that we could keep a recently gotten over Ex out've venues where we are gigging, but can we ?  NO... She often shows arm in arm with another guy..  Where do you run ?   It's the sucky aspects of being a performer..

I know Chuck,  this is why (just like with Critique) it's important to try to be impartial,  If my buddy is fighting, I need to try to drag him out've the venue too... as if to say..  "Will you chill,  what are we here for anyway" ?  This isn't the UFC.

Yep Don...  It's why I never read the PDR after a doc has prescribed me a med..  LMAO..

The 7 that died might've not died as a result of this medication.. However it still must be stated..

OR... between the Jaw's episodes, and the recent DJ situation where the lady died of water toxicity... I wonder  how many now fear water

ADDED IN:

*I* have been NO less guilty of blowing up than anybody else.  One things I do like about this Site is that it doesn't heavily censor us.  After having spent time in the Ebay community rooms where the "Pinks"  (Ebay term for community room mods) and MANY other sites,  it's amazing how much freedom we are given here..  We don't get beat up for being human and losing it ocassionally.  I've received PM's asking me to chill,  and I've gotten over stuff and have gone on... It's all a part of MANY people interacting A LOT everyday for  years... No community is exempt.  We all screw up, and we are allowed to here.  How strict and limited do  you really want this place to become ?

Gawdddd, I really hate the term "pack mentality".  It insinuates...or maybe just downright accuses...people of not having a mind of their own.  The way I see it, those 10 people are in agreement.

I agree that there should be some defination of exactly what a "critique" entails. Those that ask for a critique should be aware of what they are being judged on. I don't agree on the option of deleting those comments/critigues that the person feels isn't a "good" one.  It makes their board look good, but it's not an accurate picture on the singer's ability.  Of course, rude and uncalled for language isn't appropriate either, but website management should be told to remove those.

There are some individuals that are very sensitive about their singing when they hear the truth. They only want to hear good things, not the bad.   They remind me of the singers on American Idol.  They can't believe that say can't sing well (are totally out of tune, etc.).  Even if they are a little flat or sharp on a note, it's like when they are told that, they are totally destroyed.  LOL

I don't critique because I'm not qualified.  Then again, is there anyone on SS who is qualified?    Maybe "critiquers" should apply for the "job"  by posting their qualifications and we could vote on a particular person(s) who we feel should be able to do the critique on those  that are asking for one.

Hi Connie! Please also see the thread entitled: "What Does It Take To Make A Change".  There was some discussion going on about critiqueing there as well.  For instance, a separate room for critiques, following a particular format, etc.  I know I'm not qualified either Connie nor would I want to take on such a responsibility.

I think Lulys idea of critiquing (for want of a better word) using a pre-planned form where you answer according to some predefined questions with a little area for extra comments is a good one. Perhaps that is on another thread

Maybe what SS need is not changes or additional buttons but a few Mods.
