Does anyone know of any games to play with karaoke?

The only one I've tried a kind of karoake Russian Rhoulette, where the KJ (or singer's friends) pick a random song, and the singer tries his best to pull it off-- either he knows it or has to make it up as he goes along. I've done this once and it was surprisingly fun.

MTV used to do a karaoke game.  They used a spinning wheel like on wheel of fortune.

strip karaoke, spin the karaoke singer, pin the tail on the karaoke host...

Why does everyone not treat karaoke as a serious form of entertainment?    

Why do many think that there has to be "games" at karaoke?    

Do you play games when a band plays?  

Do you play games when a DJ plays?

Whatever happened to just doing "quality" karaoke?

I'm tired of everyone thinking that there has to be games and trivia and God knows what else at karaoke.....Karaoke is a serious form of entertainment to a great many singers and I just think that if more emphasis was put on the quality of the sound system, there would be no need for other..... distractions.  :no:  

Put more time, money and energy in to running a more professional show.  :O


Kids play games.      Professionals do a quality karaoke show.  :yes:

Some of these games are designed to get the precious NON singers involved. You have said you understand how important they are to a show, so you should also understand that by getting them more involved than just sitting like a lump, they will stay longer.

Trivia, karaoke roulette, dance songs (whether sung or played), all add up to a mmore full experience for ALL involved.

And I am sorry if you are old and not able to multi task, but once you have the equipment and sound down, it should be easy to try new things to get a crowd into it. Bar owners tend to be less stupid with a successful show............

Nothing wrong with having fun while still having good quality karaoke.  Keeps things lively and fresh and like you mentioned, dbk, it involves the non-singer as well, making it a pleasant experience for all.

I agree that  there is nothing wrong with having a healthy balance ..... but the focus should stay on Karaoke singing, as much as possible.  

We find that the 10-20 sec "bump music" between singers.... gets the non-singers 'into' the show alot..... many many times, we've found out that they create a "name the artist" game, on their own ...... and often come up to the desk to find out who "won" the round!!!  That's becoming a very fun thing for our non-singers, and something THEY created, on their own.

We also do what we call a "sing to win" round .... which tends to get those that aren't singing, interested in trying it out.  During that round, we give each singer a ticket as they finish their song ..... and then later in the evening ... we do a drawing for a 'prize' of some kind.  We have a music store here in town that often will give us CD's of some of the newer artists ..... and we give those as prizes.  We also sometimes give away one the air guitars that we keep on the stage ... or something fun like that.  

Our "games" don't take away from the flow of "karoake" singing .... they just seem keep the entire room interested ..... and seem to get those that aren't singing more into giving it a try.  

We don't do this every night, either.  Just occasionally!  Most of the time... with the number of singers we have (@ 30-40) ... we are straight karaoke..... but for those slower nights, it can be fun.

I would find games to be a pain in the butt to try to manage and adminsiter. I do raffles and give-aways from time to time- ---maybe give away a tshirt or somethng for trivia questions. But I wouldnt rely heavily on it--distracts too much from the singing.

Stick to karaoke with some some fill music selected based on crowd type. Cant go wrong with that..

Pure, non stop, contiuous karaoke music still seems to be the best "game" in town.

Even works best with the non singers.    If the non singers are staying all night, something must be working correctly.     Maybe it's the "games" I'm not wasting the singers time with, that keeps everyone interested and happy.      

Too busy multi-tasking trying to keep one step ahead of the stupid bar owners.

I enjoy games. Not every night (that would be disgusting) but occasionally.

ONe club I go to has a Sunday night game they play. It is almost entirely regulars on Sundays. You sign up in advance, it starts late and only lasts one round. The KJ has a selection of songs and it is a kind of "karaoke roulette" or kamikaze karaoke" scenario, but there are a bunch of props onstage to play with, and you basically just get up there and do your thing. Audience picks the best "act" at the end of the round. I think a free drink or something like that is the prize.

More than one night a week would be a desperate cry for attention or a better show. But one night a week ( or maybe one night a month) is fun.

Games can be a great addition to any show.  We've used games for years, all the way from wind up toy races to hula hoop contests to karaoke bingo & everything in between - with much success & anticipation from the crowd BOTH singers & non-singers alike!

Games in the context of a CONTEST can be VERY EFFECTIVE if not overdone and if they are kept  to a BRIEF TIME. Too long or if they drag the crowd gets restive.

Wow, what's karaoke bingo!?

Yeah Karaoke isnt a Game!!!

I've tried Karaoke Revolution for the PS2, the song list is decent but its kind a bizarre way to score. It' has a pitch meter, and you just have to stay within the tone, meaning that if you are totally off key but stay within the pitch range you can "pass" the level. While that doesn't necessarily sound fun, like in real karaoke you do really well when you really know the song.

Haven't tried Singstar, the British game yet. Any good?

I totally agree. We had a show the other night & took a few pics & you can clearly see although we didnt need to play a filler song at all b/c we had plenty of singers & they were having a good time, a few non singers in the background look bored. JMO here we've never tried a game before but some good ideas have come about with threads like this, maybe we'll "try" it one day...

I got my daughter (shes 13) All the karaoke revolutions  ( except for the new Am.Idol ones that just came out) You just dont know how it has boosted her confidence in singing. Shes a bit shy & not easily happy with her singing. But shes came & said to me "mom let me sing this song on your system now Ive been practicing on KR & think I got it" Its soooo cute !!! It helps to get timing & phrasing better too. Shes improved quite a bit. I dont push her though I just let her know its supposed to be fun singing. Its not for everyone & if she doesnt feel comfy than dont play with it. But she loves it ! I gotta get a pic of her with the headphone mic on & post it
